When someone leads with a quote from Ecclesiastes 3.1, you know some sort of change is about to be announced.

Friday, 28 Oct 2011 will be my last day in Redmond, and unfortunately Microsoft and the patterns & practices team. My decision to leave Redmond was driven solely by the poor real estate market in this area.

I’ve written a short blog post about my move to Boise, ID: http://karlshifflett.wordpress.com/2011/10/21/to-every-thing-there-is-a-season/

I will miss Microsoft and Microsoft people very much.

Hello WPF, Prism, and enterprise development!

Hey Karl,

Just finished reading your post, it reminds me recent John Papa’s choice, I think you did it right.

Best wishes for your new job but, most of all, for your new big dream.

Disciples are always here, no matter where you move.

Cheers,

Corrado

Good luck Karl,

Looking at where you are going, does that mean you get to be a 'real'
architect? you know, bricks, concrete, steel and all that?

(I am sure I am not the only one here who has had the "Oh, so you're
an architect ... I am thinking about building my own house ..."
conversation)

Regards,
Colin E.

That's why I always refer to myself as a Software Engineer. Then I get to handle the "My computer is running slow" conversation. I usually tell them that I re-install Windows every few months to avoid the slowdown caused by random processes (that I never use but some software package I installed for a demo figured I needed it without asking me) running at start. Most people get squeamish when you talk about re-installing Windows. It's a good habit though. Apple solves this by releasing a new OS every six months.

The very best of luck Karl. Thanks for all your amazing efforts from inside the blur house and I sure hope we get to have a refreshment at a conference in the very near future!

Cheers

Thanks to everyone.  The number of people who have written me about the culture of Idaho and how nice Boise is, is icing on the cake.

What is truly exciting is that I’ll begin a huge green field application about 3 months after starting.

Pete will be very glad when I start posting on Code Project again. Pete, December 2011 I’ll be back.

I’m going on a cruise Thanksgiving week (end of Nov for non-colonist), will be writing something I’ve been wanting to for a long time, also to swim with dolphins in Mexico.

Best,

kdawg

Best of luck kdawg
