SUBJECT: MARION BEACH HAS PASSED - ANOTHER
DANCE FRIEND GONE
FROM: LOU ANN
SCHEMMEL
Many of you will remember Marion Beach, a dear
friend and dance companion who moved from Orange
County, CA to the Sacramento area a few years ago to
be near her daughter and her family. Prior to that she
was very active in the line dance community in SoCal
and often traveled to events - if you check my
Facebook page for some pictures you will probably
recognize her.
Marion had to have another heart surgery last week,
and unfortunately there were many complications
afterwards and she never left the ICU. She passed
away two days ago…..
Marion was an integral part of our local line dance
group OCDC right from the beginning in 1997, finding
us our dance venues in Costa Mesa and at
Cedarbrook our current studio, as well. She was
instrumental in creating our three OCDC events in
1998 and 1999……She talked me into attending my
first event in VShe loved our group and line
dancing……we will surely miss her terribly. Her family
in NoCal is stunned and saddened……she had been
enjoying her first great grandchild and looking
forward to seeing the second soon.
We will dance one for her this Wednesday at
Cedarbrook.

Subject: CRYSTAL BOOT AWARDS UK 2015
From: Vivienne
Scott www.stayinline.ca Hi
everyone:
I had a really fantastic time at the Crystal Boot
Awards in Blackpool, UK, it is a very very special
event and different from any other event I have been
to. It truly honours the tremendous talent we have in
our line dance world while at the same time every
effort is put into ensuring that the dancers have the
time of their lives!! To prove that it worked, CBA 2016
was sold out by the end of the weekend with 1000
dancers, what an achievement. The Show on the
Saturday night is alone worth going to the event for!
If you are interested you can put your name on a
waiting list for 2016 or for 2017.
My full report is
going to be published in Linedancer
magazine and they will have loads of photos and full
details of the Award Winners so if you would like to
have, however, put up a shorter report and lots of my
photos from the event are now up my site
be invited to teach at the event and I released a new
dance ‘Her Memory’. Hope some of you get a chance
to check it out --- Improver, toe tapping country track.
Happy dancin’!

SUBJECT: SUBSTITUTE LINE DANCE INSTRUCTORS
FROM: LIA ANN REAU (ANDRUS)
WEB SITE: LiaLineDance.com
One of my students (Mike) writes in a blog every week
about inspiring & encouraging others through Line
Dancing. He posted this today and I thought it was
such a great subject to discuss with all of you. I love
the posts that help us as instructors/choreographers
to be the best that we can be.(like the subject 'Baby'
dances that we are now discussing). Seeing how Mike
is the one who posted this It would be great if you
could please comment about this on the blog
Cowering To Confidence as well as the newsletter.
Thank you, Lia
I wish to draw attention to a particular issue.
Substitute line dance instructors. I bring this up
because I’ve heard rumors, comments, and
complaints. Some are good, some are bad, and some
are downright rude.
I’ve seen students walk off the dance floor or leave
for home when they discover that the normal
instructor is unable to teach. I’ve seen students not
give other instructors an opportunity and a chance to
trust in their abilities. It isn’t that a substitute or a
new instructor is good or bad at teaching, they simply
have a different approach that’s all.
People often tell me that I need to be out on the
dance floor more often, but when people don’t show
up or they leave early because the normal instructor
isn’t present I think questions need addressing.
Is the student there to
learn to dance, have a good
time, make friends, dance for God, or are they there to
worship the instructor? Because if the reason a
student is there is simply because of the line dance
instructor, well then that’s a form of idolatry. It would
be no different if one attends church and discovers
that the lead pastor is on leave for a few weeks and
the member doesn’t attend. Is that member there for
the message and to worship God or are they
worshipping the person giving the sermon because of
their popularity?
What would students like to have happen if the
normal instructor is unable to teach? Regular dancers
might be happy with open dance and still willing to
pay for it, but it might not be fair to those that only
know a couple of dances?
How can an instructor go about finding a
qualified
person to cover for them and one that students would
still like to see teach?
It is no secret that I look up to Lia a lot. She is my
mentor, my hero, and a close friend, but she isn’t God
and I’m not going to worship her. If she had to find
someone to take her place I would have the heart and
respect to accept the person that she finds to fill in
for her.
Students should keep these things in mind, when an
instructor has to get a substitute to cover for them
the instructor is not making any money, but, yet the
instructor still has to set up the equipment
beforehand, they have to get the lessons and music
ready, and go back later to take it all down. The
instructor does their best to make students happy
and still get disappointed students. How do you think
that makes the instructor feel not to mention the
substitute?
Just imagine the sacrifices that an instructor has to
make in terms of family, friends, and everything in
between for line dancing. I know first-hand that Lia
has missed performances, tournaments,
competitions, and meetings for her kids because she
has had to teach class and doesn’t get a substitute
for her line dance class. Lia and other instructors like
her make those sacrifices because they love and are
dedicated to what they’re doing.
Lia has had two or three people cover for her and I
have to say that they did a damn fine job in her
absence.
Thanks, Lia

SUBJECT: DANCES THIS WEEK
FROM: BIG
DAVE
Hi all,
Thanks to everyone who came to dance at our Sutton
Sunday last Sunday - We went over 4 dances there during the afternoon & we
did all those in class on Wednesday night :-) - Two were new to class - Yvonne's
upbeat disco classic East Coast The Boy Can Dance & Karl's lovely smooth
Westlife Nightclub A Thousand Years both big hits at the Awards & here in
the Toon too - Two were recaps for them - Maggie's catchy improver Two-Step
Here's To Us, which was a hit teach for Maggie back at our West Country New Year
Bash & Rob's cool Viennese Waltz Shades Of Passion, another big hit teach
out of the Awards workshops.
Away from recent events our other new
ones were two great pop ones - Both really cool pop tracks & popular teaches
:
Meghan Trainor - Lips Are Movin' - Another cool track
(un-missably 'Uptown Funk' Meghan) & a great modern/pop mainstream dance
called LIPZ from Maggie, Gary & Helen :-)
Paloma Faith - Ready
For The Good Life - A great upbeat West Coast 'Have Fun Go Mad' style - A cool
Newline style dance from Neville & Julie - Reminds me of Dee's Quickly too
which we've done recently :-)
The late-birds was another Awards
hit, Simon Wards awesome funky style Nightclub Battle Scars which was really
well received - And we cracked the equally awesome fast & funky Fred &
Joey dance Slave 2 The Rhythm out of Bossyboots Strictly Stoke - At full speed
too !!! :-) - We've got I'm Burnin' Up nailed too but we'll give that another go
next week - And the new one will be Fred & Darren's Hypnotized another hit
from Stoke (& still more to come from the G-man & Scott).
All the new dances were 5/5 received - I'm on a roll whoop lol !!
:-) Thanks choreographers for some awesome dances to get 2015 off to a flying
start :-) Thanks AZ's for dancing with me - Looking forward to our next outing
together at our Alam Scarborough next month with Andrew & Sheila - Still
places available if you want to come & dance with us - No guest instructor -
Just me & Andrew teaching the latest hit prospects & loads of dancing
until the early hours both nights - Another favourite place for me - Love the
Whitby/Scarborough/Filey coast :-)
We recapped a bunch too - New
Shade Of Blue, Modern Romance, Here's To Us, Vertigo, Love Me Like You Do, Hard
To Say It, Shades Of Passion & Don't Dance Alone - Not enough though so in
the main class we are going to recap hard next week - Yes AZ's a recap week !!!
:-) Got a list - Turn Up The Beat, One Great Mystery, Too Blind To See, Up,
Bubbles Dahhhling, Hard Work, Quickly, I'm Burnin' Up - And YES for me - Love it
!! :-) ........ Just something new in the early-birds & late-birds sessions
:-)
Have a great weekend everyone - A quiet home one for us - But
getting ready & looking forward to our first visit to Folkestone next
weekend with Dee & Karl - Heading down there on Thursday for our usual
pre-event chill night out
:-)
Cheers.
Dave.

SUBJECT: LEVEL OF DANCE DISCUSSION
Hello: I just caught wind of the thread that has been
going around regarding EZ or Baby dances! I have to
say my 2 cents!
HALLELUJAH!!!!! thank you ,,,thank you!!!!!!
no
offense taken here..please do more...I had to even
contact choreographers
to see if they would "baby" a particular dance
because it was too hard for the Beginners' class! Most
of them don't even respond
to me when I ask! so I go to some of my
favorite
Beginner Choreographers and ask...all they can say is
No....or ignore me...or
come through for me!
There are way too many difficult dances out
there....sometimes even the simplest beginners dance
can be too difficult for some of
the classes; how do you keep them
engaged, wanting
to come back for more, if it was not for the Baby and
EZ dances? Again, Thank You!
