THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 1.  I hope everyone is high and dry today.  We had sooooooooo much rain yesterday with lots of flooding around the Tampa Bay Area but this morning, so far, it is dry.  I think the storm is going in north of us so we are only expecting more rain today or perhaps some storm surge with the high tide this afternoon.  Hope everyone is unflooded and dry.  Stay safe, everyone, north of us and also our friends in Hawaii are coping with TWO storms.  It's that time of year.

NOTE FROM ME:
Someone said the Vegas Dance Explosion Web Site Link didn't work yesterday.  Here is the link.  I just checked and it opened:

Subject: NTA Dance Tip – Updated Triple Two Step

From: Debra Cleckler – NTA Dance Committee de...@cleckler.com

The updated style of Triple Two Step is a smooth, graceful dance that incorporates walking steps and triple step movements with a lot of nice shaping and the use of Contra Body Movement.  Triple Two music is slow and soothing to the soul. “Die a Happy Man” by Thomas Rhett and “Tough Little Boys” by Gary Allan are two good examples of Triple Two music.

There are two main basic patterns that consist of six counts; 1, 2, 3& 4, 5& 6.

The easier basic pattern consists of moving down Line of Dance (LOD) in Closed Position with a walk (1), walk (2), triple step (3& 4), triple step (5& 6).  These triple steps are done on the diagonals for the first two steps then shape back toward LOD for the third step.

The other basic pattern consists of a rotation for the couple.  It starts in Promenade with two Promenade Walks, (crossing in CBMP (Contra Body Movement Position) on the second walk.  The leader keeps the rotation going as he does a French Cross Turn on 3& 4 (he moves around the lady into backing LOD) while the follower does the diagonal triple step on 3& 4.  The leader (continuing the rotation) does the diagonal triple step while the follower does the French Cross Turn to end up back in Promenade Position.

To see how the above basic movements work and how they should look you can check out my new Triple Two Line Dance, “Die a Happy Man Triple Two” on youtube.  Step sheet is on Copperknob..

SUBJECT:  July 2016 World Dance Instructor Survey
FROM:  Edie Driskill
wdis...@linelessons.com

The July 2016 Survey was mailed out yesterday.  If you didn't get it, please OPT-IN at the above email address.  The formatting doesn't allow it to easily appear in this news feed, so if you are an instructor who would like to collaborate with other instructors to keep their classes fun and fresh, please join our project.  We currently have over 200 instructors from 4 continents helping each other to keep our work fun and manageable.

There is a very old gnawing complaint that circulates around our sport....the new(ish) choreographers have a hard time getting their dances out and becoming known.  It is true that Rachael has 3 of the top 5 dances this month....but we love Rachael and are thrilled that she hasn't retired yet!    SO, I did a quick look at the top 25 choreographers on the survey this month....and guess what?  15 of them where not writing 5 years ago, or if they were no one knew it!  Some of them must have still been in nappies (they look so young!)

This is a survey by instructors, for instructors....because our lives are crazy busy and sorting through hundreds of dances is not everyone's top job.  When we see that 10 or 20 other instructors from around the world selected a dance to make their class fun and fresh this month, it's worth a look.  And once you find a new choreographer you haven't seen before you can easily search (CTRL-F) the document for other dances they wrote currently on the floor.

To the choreographers actively trying to build their brand, if you know that instructors have taught your dances and they aren't showing on this survey....become a collector and gather the data for us.  We all want to know you!  But we want to rely on each other to promote your work....we don't have the time to look at every new dance from every new choreographer.  Be in touch and we'll get you started!

The TOP 10 from this month are below, but the survey lists 1238 more amazing dances....

42 Frankie Fever (M Glover)
41 So Just Dance Dance Dance (Vane/Richard)
36 Woman Up (McEnaney-White/Christian)
30 S.T. One (McEnaney)
29 Just Not (McEnaney)
22 Hot Tamale Jr. (Szymanski, Robinson)
21 Do a Little Life (M Glover, Risley)
21 Handclap (Ellis, Zahorsky)
19 Bring Down the House (Burgess)
19 Crash & Burn (Smith)

NOTE FROM ME:  And I have an important tip for new choreographers.  If you post your step sheets, be sure and add a video.  People will be MUCH MORE LIKELY to look at sheets with a video.

If you haven't checked out the USLDCC Competition for NEW CHOREOGRAPHERS, it is the best way to get some recognition and perhaps the opportunity to win and get a teaching spot at the World Dance Masster's in England or if you win their competition to be invited to teach at the Line Dance Showdown in the US.
Here is the site to check out the rules and where the competitions are held.
