SUBJECT: Dance Xperience New Orleans 2017 - Report

FROM: Hagan Ko (ha...@haganlinedance.com) - Washington, DC

Finally home!  We had 4 days in New Orleans of great friends, fun, food, and lots of fantastic dancing!

It's really amazing how we can pull people from such diverse backgrounds into a single ballroom, and we're able to connect with each other based on our shared interest in dance.  Just amazing!  The pre-party on Wed night in the French Quarter at BB King's was lots of fun social time!

There were tons of great dances over the weekend, here are just a few of them that caught my attention:

"Straight to the Castle" - Advanced Phrased 1 Wall (Joey Warren)

This was definitely "THE" most talked about dance of the event.  It's different and very creative. Fantastic dance that's definitely a challenge. There are tons of videos on Facebook if you want to check it out.  You know a dance is good when you see the other choreographers taking the workshop. Love this one.  My #1 favorite of the weekend.  Floor filler, played multiple times on Sunday night.

"Let It Out" - Intermediate 4 Wall (Rachael White)

This is my 2nd favorite dance from the weekend. Funky, fun...not too hard.  Love the song!  Just another GREAT dance from Rachael. I just LOVE THIS DANCE.  Floor filler.

"Kissing Strangers" - Intermediate 2 Wall (Rachael White & Simon Ward)

This dance was VERY FUN!! I feel it is in that sweet spot of being not too easy where it can get boring, but hard enough to be challenging and interesting, yet not too hard where it is beyond what I could do. GREAT dance. Take a look at this one!

"The Boogie" - Phrased Intermediate (Fred Whitehouse & Shane McKeever)

A fun and funky dance. There are arm movements, but they are accessible to most of us.  A lot of dancers mentioned they really enjoyed this. I'm hoping that Fred & Shane will teach this at upcoming events later this year so I can get a 2nd and 3rd teach.

"Lady In Red" - High Intermediate (Simon Ward)

A great night club to a classic song.  I didn't take this workshop, but I heard great things about this. Definitely adding it to my "need to learn" list.

"She Used To Be Mine" - Advanced Waltz (Rachael White & Caroline Pillar)

This is a gorgeous waltz to a beautiful track.  I loved this dance, but it was definitely not easy. It will be at least 2 or 3 more teaches before I feel I can "fake" this one on the dance floor. It's a great dance!

SUBJECT:  TUESDAY CLASS IN PINELLAS PARK LAST NIGHT.

We had a small class last night with our snowbirds mostly gone and Diane was home sick.  Our last week of the month is always review night so we did a lot of them last night.  We are lining up the new teaches for the coming weeks.  Next week I will be teaching RUN ME LIKE A RIVER and we will announce what else for next week in a couple of days.  Hope you will join us as we prepare to learn the good new dances coming out.  There are many events coming up and we try to pick dances so you can dance a lot when you attend socials, workshops, and events.

SUBJECT:  NOTE FROM RACHAEL MCENANEY

Hi everyone,

I returned home yesterday morning after a very early flight (3am!!) from the Dance Xperience in New Orleans and prior to that the North West Blast in Portland.

Had a great 2 weekends and managed to squeeze in half a day of sightseeing in between :-)

I released the step sheet yesterday of She Used To Be Mine (though I hear some people got hold of an earlier step sheet that was wrong as the dance was changed ;-))...there was unfortunately a MINOR mistake on the sheet I released yesterday - it said March 2016 when it should have been March 2017 - I guess I still haven't adjusted yet lol.

She Used To Be Mine is a 2 wall, advanced waltz line dance choreographed by myself and Caroline Pillar (Scotland), we have been working on this dance since early January and we finally got it finished in March.   The track is incredible and has reduced us both to tears several times, thank you Louis St George for bringing the track to my attention.

Here is the youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2Vas8dfxv8

and here is the link to get the step sheet (en Français aussi): http://dancewithrachael.com/Dance_with_Rachael_McEnaney/Dances.html

Simon Ward and myself also have 2 new dances that we released in New Orleans (by request) and we are hoping to get a least one of the sheets typed this week.  Kissing Strangers by DNCE and Time To Surrender (The Pieces Don't Fit Anymore - James Morrison) - coming soon!

Have a great week everyone, hopefully you will hear from me again in a few days :-)
