Dear Colleagues,

I just happened to know that LNCS (Lecture Notes in Computer Science) is not
indexed by SCI since 2007. Does anyone know this?

Regards,
Jinjun

Dear Jinjun,

Could you let me know about the detail if the LNCS is not indexed by SCI-level?
When I cheked a search engine, there is someone who is talking about the same thing.
He says that it will be decided in Feb or March. Is this true?

Regards,

Dear all,
ICCS07 has an official statement from Springer about this. It is on
the conference page in the FAQ section:

As from January 2007, LNCS books are no longer listed in the ISI
Journal Citation Index (or the Extended Index). They will be included
in the ISI Proceedings listing.
The logic behind Thomson's elimination of LNCS from this product is
that the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series does not, strictly
speaking, constitute a journal at all, but consists mainly of
conference proceedings. In 2005, LNCS published far more than two
thirds of the total number of articles published by all 71 journals
included in ISI's Subject Category 'Computer Science, Theory and
Methods'. This fact, together with LNCS's reclassification as
'proceedings' led to the exclusion of our series from the Journal
Citation Report/SCI.
Apart from being listed in our own SpringerLink database, the LNCS
volumes are also listed in the DBLP database:
http://www.informatik.uni-trier.de/~ley/db/, as well as in SCOPUS,
INSPEC (Ei) and the Zentralblatt Math and their CompuServe Database,
and Google Scholar.

In brief, the above means that Thomson will continue to index LNCS,
but it will be included in a new index, specifically for proceedings.

Cheers,
Marian

Hi,

What will happen with the LNCS papers already indexed by SCI?
Will they be removed too ?
Or this decision will affect only the future volumes?

Also, I could not find a notice either on Springer page or ISI
thompson page. Why is that?

thanks,
Laura

To my knowledge, the decision will affect only the future volumes. As to those papers already indexed by SCI will keep be indexed.

which are included in the Computer Science Citation Index?

Thanks.

Hi,

I cannot find a notice on Springer or ISINET about this topic. Why?
Is this 100% sure ?

thanks,
Laura

Hi Laura,

I am now pretty sure about that. APWeb/WAIM 2007 also informed its accepted
paper authors about that. They did the same as ICCS2007. From the perspective
of Springer, it may not be a big issue or it is not a good thing to promote on
its website.

A good idea is that we may email to the managing editor of LNCS re this issue.

Cheers,
Jinjun
