This is the best idea I've heard lately. Sometimes I'm dense when I
study your Pre-1851 Identification, find a code, (D2, et al), go to
the coding page, find D2 and then try to get back to the progenitor.

Is a data base on Rootsweb's World Connect possible? I'm in favor of
publicizing the corrections you've documented so that future
researchers won't continue with erroneous connections. I'm sure you
have something in mind. You know that I will help in any way I can.

I need to at least get Jacob's sons and their spouses on-line. I'll
be 70 next year, and I haven't found another descendant to continue
this endeavor.

Some of the families who lived in Lovely Co., AR (1827-1828) were
mandated by the government to move and were given land in other
counties of the state. This might be the case in some of the Womacks
below. Larkin and Johnson lived in Lovely Co.

Here are other Arkansas Womacks, some of whom without documentation
revealed by researchers of these families or that I can find, are
thought to be Womacks. I have documentation on others listed. Most
were not born before 1800.

1. Jacob (wife, Rutha) son of Johnson. Scott Co., AR 1850; died in
Madison Co.

2. Isaac Womack, age 20-30 on the 1840 Conway Co., AR census. Land
records in Conway and Perry Co.

3. William Womack, age 20-30 (there are 2 males 20-30) on the 1840
Desha Co., AR census

4. Bird/Byrd Womack of Pope Co., AR, m. in Arkansas Clarissa Langford,
had a son David C. Womack - Bird might be Larkin's brother, and
another son of David's.

5. Sarah Womack, b. 1797 TN, d. in Logan Co., AR, m. Unknown Hall,
living next to Johnson's Jacob in Scott Co., AR in 1850; probably
Johnson's daughter and named for his mother, Sarah Johnson Womack.
Sarah Womack Hall lived with her son, Jacob Hall. The current Hall
researcher has no docs with her maiden name. Her maiden name was
passed down to him from previous Hall researchers.

6. Martha "Patsy/Patsey" Womack, b. ca. 1810 TN, d. Saline Co., AR, m.
1838 (marriage date on the 1850 census) John A. Boren (Arkansas
researchers spell the name Boran). His father, Bazel A. Boren d. 1825
Lawrence Co., AR (probate record on line) and is on the tax records
with Jacob's family in Lawrence Co. prior to 1820. This is Shirley
Womack's line (not her husband's). I believe Martha to be Jesse's
(son of Jacob) dau. Instead of Satsey I think this is Patsey and this
is a typo or misinterpretation of the probate record below. Martha
was probably named for Jesse's sister, Martha "Patsy" Womack Bean.

156. WOMACK, Jesse, deceased. Bond of John WOMACK, administrator
February 26, 1827. Securities: Walter G. HOGAN, Alvis NOLAN. Heirs:
Nancy HIX of Lawrence County, Arkansas Territory William WOMACK of
Crawford County, Arkansas; Territory; the heirs of Betsey COCHRAN
living in Lawrence County, Arkansas Territory; and Polly GRAY,
Pleasant WOMACK, **Satsey WOMACK**, Phebe WOMACK, Jinny WOMACK, and
Nicy WOMACK--all of Lawrence County, Arkansas Territory. (I have
information on all of Jesse's children)

7. Josiah Womack, b. ca. 1809 KY, on the 1850 Pope Co. census. We've
found no evidence of Jacob's sons being in KY. Larkin's son James
Baldwin Womack lived on the Van Buren/Pope Co., line by 1855. He was
in Pope Co. in 1870.

8. Frances "Fanny" Womack, b. ca. 1780, wife of Elijah David Weaver -
dau. of David. Their son, Larkin Weaver was with Larkin Womack in
Crawford Co., AR.

9. Unknown Given Name (maybe Wiley?) Womack, m. Elizabeth, who moved
from Lawrence Co., TN to Scott Co., AR, possibly the son of David
Womack and Elizabeth Hawkins.

dau., Eliza Womack was born (22 Dec 1817 per Baker researchers) in AR
on one census record and in TN on two census records. Eliza married
1834 Shelby Co., IL Joseph Henry Baker, brother of Mary "Polly" Baker,
wife of Levi Womack.

Even if Eliza were not born in AR, at least we know William was in TN

There were two Womack families in Shelby Co, IL. One was the kids of
William Womack (wife Rebecca LNU): Green, Benjamin, Clement, Joseph,
Levi. The other was William Womack (wife Didama Webb) and their kids
- this family was in both Shelby and Moultrie Cos, IL.

Green > William > Abraham > Abraham > Thomas > Abraham > William "The
Immigrant"
William > Abner > Thomas > Abraham > Thomas > Abraham > William "The
Immigrant"

So Green Womack in Shelby Co, IL was 2nd cousin of William Womack who
married Didama Webb and moved from Warren Co, TN to Shelby Co, IL.

I think Eliza Womack who married Joseph Baker may have been the
daughter of William Womack and Didama Webb, which would explain her
birth in TN.

The page I have on William Womack of Gallatin Co, IL is way out of
date. I will fix it soon. I am working on several things, so I'm
pretty busy.

I had thought he might be the son of Major Jacob Womack, but I realize
now he was the son of Abraham Womack and Elizabeth Stubblefield of
Caswell Co, NC.

The evidence for this is overwhelming in my view.

William's son Green was born in GA according to two censuses. In the
1780s, tax records show William Womack owned land in Wilkes Co, GA
next to Seth Stubblefield, his cousin. Next, William appears as
making claims for stuff stolen by the Creek Indians during the
conflict the settlers had with the Indians. Like many other settlers,
he left the GA frontier for a safer area. In 1800, he was in
Pendleton Dist, SC a few lines from Benjamin Ingram, who was married
to his sister Nancy Womack. While in Pendleton, William and Rebecca
Womack witnessed a deed. William was also on a deed with Kinson
Cannon. The Womacks, Ingrams, and Cannons were all part of a major
migration from SC to western KY. William may have been in TN for a
few years before going on to KY. William moved to Caldwell Co, KY by
1809, where he was for the 1809, 1810, and 1811 tax lists at least.
In 1810, William witnessed the will of Benjamin Ingram in Caldwell Co,
KY, along with Medis Ingram Saxon, his niece - daughter of Charlton
Ingram and Lucy Womack. Later, Nancy Womack Ingram left a will in
Trigg Co, KY leaving everything to niece Medis Ingram Saxon
Waddlington. William's daughter Nancy married William Thetford in
Caldwell. William's sister Lucy married Charlton Ingram in Caswell
Co, NC, and they also moved to Caldwell Co, KY. William wrote a
letter to his brother Josiah Womack, who was executor of the will of
Abraham Womack, to give his share to Charlton Ingram. The Josiah
Womack Bible records gives the birth of all of the kids of Abraham
Womack and Elizabeth Stubblefield. Josiah's son William Peeples
Womack, had a Bible that said his aunt Lucy died in Nov 1816, and his
uncle William died in Jan 1820. Lucy Womack Ingram must have died in
Caldwell Co, KY, because Charlton Ingram remarried there in 1817.
There is an 1810 Caldwell Co, KY court order that has William Womack,
Green Womack, Walter Thetford, and Jeremiah Hubbs all working on a
road to Ingram's place. On the 1820 state census of Gallatin Co, IL,
Rebecca Womack, Green Womack, Benjamin Womack, Walter Thetford, and
Jeremiah Hubbs are all listed. Walter Thetford had married William's
daughter Nancy. I do not know who Jeremiah Hubbs married, but there
was a William Womack Hubbs, born about 1803 in KY, in Gallatin Co,
IL. William Womack died Jan 1820, according to nephew William Peeples
Womack's bible. All the Womacks were missed in the 1820 Federal
Census of Gallatin Co, IL. However, the 1820 State Census shows
Rebecca, Green, and Benjamin Womack.

The fact that this William Womack was near Stubblefields and Ingrams
is good proof he was the son of Abraham Womack and Elizabeth
Stubblefield. Plus, the William Peeples Womack Bible says this
William died in Jan 1820, and we know he died beteen the 1818
territorial census of IL, and the 1820 state census of IL. I have
ordered the Gallatin Co, IL probate indexes to see if I can narrow it
down further to Jan 1820.

Obediah Womack who married Elizabeth Woods was part of the Bedford Co,
TN Womacks - my group. He had sons named David and Elisha, names
which run in that line, plus he was near Michael Womack in 1840
Franklin Co, TN.

Shelby Co, IL is confusing because of two groups of Womacks - the
family of William Womack and Rebecca LNU, and the family of William
Womack and Didama Webb. I believe the families knew each other and
knew they were related.

The 1818 territorial census of Galatin IL has Green Wormack with 1
white male over 21, and 3 other whites. William Wormack has 2 white
males over 21, and 8 other whites. William Wallace is listed between
Green and William Wormack.

Green was of course the male over 21 in his HH. The 3 other whites
were his wife Mary "Polly" Wallace and children Sarah Womack and
William Wallace Womack.

William was one of the males over 21 in his HH. The other was
probably son Benjamin. The 8 other whites were wife Rebecca LNU, sons
Joseph, Clement, and Levi, daughters Lucinda Womack (later married
John Alford Wallace) and Pernecia Womack, and two others I cannot
identify. See WGN Tuesday, April 17, 2001 message of Elizabeth Ordway
for info on Pernecia Womack.

One of the two unidentified persons in William Womack's HH may have
been Eliza Josephine Womack. If so, William was in TN when Eliza was
born. I think it is more likely she was the daughter of William
Womack and Didama Webb.

In an effort to try and clear some thoughts up about my FGW and his sister
Elizabeth and another possible sister Sarah, I went to Montgomery Co. IL
today. Nothing of any earth shaking finds. On his marriage license to Anna
D. Lytickers (Liticker), Alexander Prater swore that Anna's mother gave her
permission to wed. This was on Mar. 14, 1844 and the license was issued the
same day. But it is hard to tell, but looks like the marriage actually took
place as signed by the minister on Apr. 4, 1844.

I found the license for marriage of Elizabeth (Womack) Gentry to Alexander
Prater on 2-5-1838 but there were no parents listed for either. That was
what I was hoping for, but since she was well of age, guess there wasn't any
need for it.

Hi Paul,

You may want to look at any probate records for Dr. Richard Brown, and/
or his wife Sarah Womack Brown. Both supposedly died in Montgomery
Co, IL in the 1840s, so they may have probate records there.

Relatives often show up in probate records, as owing the estate, or
estate sale buyers, etc.

You may find some clues there.

I will try and pursue that next. Since you had suggested that my Francis
Green Womack might be the son of William Womack and Rachel Gilpin, I have
dug up some interesting finds. You may have already discovered this, but
Rachel's father was Francis Green Gilpin! Now I am not a betting man, but
what are the odds of this? This is almost too good to be true. I have been
looking for a break like this for years.
