Presenting the Weekly Newsletter to make your Sunday better!

Data Science Day

As some of you might be aware, the 10th of March was the International Data Science Day. There were several events conducted during the day at IITB. First we had a screening of the highlights of the "Women in Data Science" conference at Stanford. Post this, we had a line of female professors which consisted of Prof. Sunita Sarawagi, Prof. Nutan Limaye, Prof. Kavitha Telikepalli and Prof. Sharayu Moharir. This was followed by flash presentations by students working on research projects relating to data science. To wrap things up, we had a panel discussion on one of the hottest topics of Computer Science currently - AI and India: Today and Tomorrow. The panelists included Prof. Arjun Jain, Prof. Amit Sethi, Moni Gupta, Aditya Joshi with Prof. Preethi Jyothi moderating.

Ubisoft's Game Jam

WnCC brings to you yet another iteration of the Ubisoft Game Jam, which is an exciting 48-hour hackathon where teams build games from scratch under the mentorship of the studio developers from Ubisoft, Pune. The Game Jam is scheduled for the 21st and 22nd of March. The travel and accommodation would be arranged by Ubisoft and there are exciting prizes to be won as well.

As before, you can form teams of upto 5 and simply fill a form in which you need to come up with a creative and innovative game idea based on which 15 students will be selected. Note that the game idea is not the actual one you will have to work on, so there is no need to reel in your imagination with concerns of implementation and practicality. The deadline for the form is on the 12th of March.

PS: The photo was taken at the last Game Jam, where 4 teams had been selected.

Unity and VR Workshop

This week XLab also conducted a workshop on Unity and VR. The workshop was particularly interesting to anyone interested in making a game, even as a hobby project or for ITSP or for a hackathon. The workshop gave a comprehensive introduction to the world of game development and helped those who attended get started with the field by introducing them to important tools that are used to build games.
