NOAA Dropdown not populating

Hi! I discovered from one day to the other that my weewx does not pouplate the NOAA dropdown anymore. It seems strange, because I have not made any changes on the settings and the javascript code is still the same.

Any ideas? Thank you!

are the noaa files still in the noaa directory??   Does the log give any clues?

I'll leave this to an expert as it is out of my league!! 

It appears to me that the dropdown contents should be part of index.html which is generated by cheetah from index.html.tmpl which gets the monthly and yearly lists from (I assume) SummarybyMonth and SummarybyYear which are probably populated by a search list extension - which may, for some unknown reason, have got corrupted.

But that is as far as I got.

are you running the forecast extension?  if so, which version of the forecast extension, and which version of weewx?  and which components of the forecast reports are you running?

I am running the last released version of weewx together with forecast version 3.12.4.

As component I am using the Weather Underground forecast table.

i have not been able to solve the problem, because i have not been able to duplicate the behavior.

could you post the template file (e.g., index.html.tmpl) in which you included the forecast table?  then maybe i'll be able to duplicate the behavior to find the root cause.

It's hard to do an evaluation without a log file.

The file you included, index.txt, has a bad character in it that does not encode with UTF-8. That could be the problem, but it's hard to tell without the log.

Also, why is it named index.txt instead of index.html.tmpl?

It is only because I copied it to Windows
from my raspberry. The file name is the original one. How can I paste you the log file?

These errors can be difficult to find. You'll have to go through your file index.html.tmpl carefully,  By deleting parts of the file, the bad UTF-8 characters appears to be in the line

but I cannot be sure. There are a lot of scripts, styles, and classes that I don't recognize in your report, so I'm afraid I cannot help you much.

Well, perhaps the error was caused by copying from the RPi to Windows.

In any case, we still have not seen a log file. Set debug=1, restart weewx, then post the log from startup to the first report generation.

Is there a reason why the log file repeats itself - the entries from 12:05:16 - 12:05:18 appear to be duplicated

For the most part, this looks normal, although you did not post from the startup of weewx, so we cannot see all the configuration information. 

Things to try:

• HTML files are being put in /etc/weewx/public_html, which is a non-standard location. Did you change this in weewx.conf?
  
• You say the problem is that the NOAA dropdown is not populated any longer. If you look inside the generated file, index.html, do you see any options in the <select> list? Can you either post the generated file, or point us to a website that displays it?
• There are a lot of non-standard things in your template and in your skin.conf file, so it's very hard to diagnose. You may have to pare things down to the minimum to see where the problem is.

@Andrew: yes, there is a reason. I wrongly copied twice the same line.

@Tom:

1) That's what I have in my weewx.conf:

# Where the generated reports should go, relative to WEEWX_ROOT

    HTML_ROOT = public_html

I did not rember that if I changed it on myself..

2) in my index.html the > <select> option is still the original one, but javascript does not work. My orginal tables are on: http://www.meteopineto.it/NOAA/NOAA-2017.txt (example).

3) It is very strange, I never changed something, but only included the forecast extension.

Can you attach index.html to your next post so that we can see the contents of the select inside the generated page.

Don't just include the html in the post, but use the attach option to attach the file to the post as an attachment

I found the website where the dropdown list is located. We could have solved this faster if you had posted its location. http://www.meteopineto.it/info.html

The problem is that the page where the dropdown list is located was not generated by the skin.conf file, so it has no knowledge of what months were generated. There is no magic here where the Javascript has some knowledge about what files are available.

Put the dropdown list in the "Oggi" page, http://www.meteopineto.it/index.html, and I suspect all will be well.

I doubt it ever worked.

I removed the select option from index.html because it was still the same story.

Tom - Curiously the dropdown appears to be on all pages EXCEPT Oggi - and all do not seem to work - not week, month or year - all of which seem to try and have the drop down

1.  Have you done what Tom suggested - and put the NOAA dropdown into the oggi (index.html.tmpl) page

2.  Have you done what Matthew requested, and deleted the line from the index.html.tmpl?

As the creators of weewx and the forecast module - these are the two people who are most likely to be able to solve your problems - so doing what they suggest is a good place to begin!!

what happens when you remove everything in index.html.tmpl but the footer block?

are the noaa menus populated then?

in the file index.html.tmpl, remove all of the html from the <body> except for the <footer></footer> block.

see if the menus are populated.

then put sections of html code back in, one by one, running wee_reports after each one, until you determine which part is causing the problem.

Matthew - I just compared the Italian .html.tmpl and my (unused and quite old) version.  I note lack of use of upper case NAME for the java function and different line breaks as though the Italian may possibly have been through Linux/windows/Linux conversions as the line breaks are in different places.  Is it possible the template has been corrupted in some manner, and/or should NAME indeed have to be in upper case??
