Hi,

Just a little extension that checks for a RSS feed from the Spot The Station website and gives you two variables that you can include in your templates issnext and issall.

To get the url visit http://spotthestation.nasa.gov/ and pick your country, state and city then grab the RSS link.  Once the plugin is installed you will able to update the url in the Station section of your weewx.conf (maybe this should go in the stdreport configuration for the extension?)

For how you can use these variables see the included skin, which looks like:

Its working well on my desktop simulator 34 but if anyone fancied giving the install a little test drive and feeding back I would be grateful.    It probably needs updating to only check every 60 mins but it should be good enough for a beta blast.

Thanks

Chris

good stuff chris!

it would be better to keep the url in the [StdReport][[isswatch]] section instead of [Station].  the general principle is that each extension should be standalone and should run right out of the box.  it can use parts of weewx core and possibly other extensions, but it should not modify them.  if someone wants to combine extensions, they can create a new skin then manually incorporate the pieces from each extensions' sample skin.

you might want to eliminate the 'extensions' directory in your tarball - just tar up the isswatch directory.

please let us know what you think about the process of creating and packaging extensions.  we'd like to make it as easy and conflict-free as possible.

once again, nice work!

Thanks Matt,

I knew I should have done that with the config as soon as I posted it so its corrected now and I have removed the extensions folder.

The extensions thing is good.   My only wish would be for a way of extracting the files based on the contents on the install file, so you can develop and then build from the insitu files?  Have I explained that clearly - I don't know!?

I'm not expecting it to be full proof but it would be nice if it could do some of the copying back to source for you.

Regards

Chris

I already nagged Chris about a more general purpose thing that could load multiple orbital elements and have us able to select which sat(s) to calculate.   I like the Iridium Flares !

(he's probably learned to never release cool stuff to us ever again :-)

I'm working on it Vince.    You'll be the first to get a BETA peek ;)

      HTML_ROOT = /var/www/html/weewx
