What happened to /languages/default.py?

In this commit, /welcome/languages/default.py was removed. Is there a reason for that? I suppose most of the items were unnecessary, but these were used by validators:

'%Y-%m-%d': '%m-%d-%Y',
'%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S': '%m-%d-%Y %H:%M:%S'
