I think that's a bug in IronPython itself. Python has a reference implementation which is cpython, IronPython simply does not respect it. Supporting IronPython would seem close to supporting another language.

+1 on leonel: we should rewrite in the same way all imports just for the sake of ironpython ?!
Goes without saying: until someone pulls off a CI with IronPython and "promises" to maintain the code regularly, I won't add the support for it.
