How do I implement an Authentication Layer

Hi all,

I'm trying to implement an authentication layer with API Keys on an app that is mainly reached via an iOS app. Do you have any suggestions how to achieve this feat? I'd be grateful if you point me with some example code or explanation how you have/would do it.
