Poto Chapter News Update

Wanted: Trail Coordinator for Olson Park in Ann Arbor

The Potawatomi Mountain Biking Association is actively seeking a volunteer to act as the trail coordinator (TC) at Olson Park in Ann Arbor in 2017. The TC should have a good understanding of what it takes to maintain the trails, along with the time and ability to do the job. This involves mowing at least twice a year (mid-June and late July is suggested), and includes various levels of trimming back invasive growth. The TC should also understand the effects of water on the trail (draining and trenching) and should be able to make proposals for effective management of it. The role could also mean working with the City of Ann Arbor on some of the other trails in the city, and communicating with land managers about our intent and plan of action. The TC is expected to help set up an “Adopt-A-Trail” program in the Spring, which involves coordinating activities of other volunteers to support the overall maintenance of the trail system. The TC should be able to effectively motivate and delegate some of the work to other competent individuals and to follow up to ensure completion of the maintenance activities. If you are interested and would like more information about this TC role, please contact Carl Loomis at clo...@comcast.net.

In addition, we will be actively looking for volunteers in the Spring to act as trail section coordinators at Poto, Brighton, Rolling Hills, and Hewens Creek.
