Man of letters Christopher Morley wrote in his autobiography:

“Remember too that the years 1910-13 were the last of the old wayfaring world. Motors had not driven the quiet cyclist from the main highways, and modest inns were not hard to find. I believe that the Bicycling Era touched the high peak of human felicity."
