Just to fill everyone in: Ann Arbor Housing Commission commenced a massive building renovation project last year. A big item has involved moving residents of apartment buildings like Baker Commons into temporary apartments and the moving them back. With Baker Commons: the already less-than-ideal bike rack now has ZERO spaces left for RETURNING RESIDENTS.
Ms. Beth Yaroch is AAHC Residence Manager for Baker Commons. I have notified her of this problem and as of today, she has said she'll be working on the problem. I suggested she contact WBWC regarding the best replacement for the existing bike rack. She has been dilegent about such things and I have hope she'll follow my suggestion.
The background is: years ago, I submitted photos to a previous AAHC official showing the completely disintegrated (due to rust) bike rack at Baker Commons. It was replaced by a new bike rack but how the design was picked is simply beyond me - it's really not a good bike rack as it is. (requires considerable bending, body-twisting, etc to lock/unlock one's bike ).
Hoping WBWC will at least advise AAHC on this. (Their Miller Manor buiilding has similar bike parking problems and deficiencies.)
