The Institute will:

 

  • Provide numerous hands-on standards-aligned classroom resources that allow you to bridge content from the Moon to the Earth and address the Next Generation Science Standards: (Jan 2013 draft: HS-ESS1-f, HS-ESS1-g, HS-ESS1-j; HS-ESS2a, HS-PS4-f) and a variety of Science and Engineering Practices
  • Incorporate authentic inquiry experiences
  • Provide the opportunity to interact with lunar scientists
  • Offer certification to bring lunar samples into your classroom
  • Include tours of scientific research facilities

 Topics include:

 

  • Geology of the Moon
  • Moon phases and eclipses
  • Spectrometry
  • Formation of the Moon
  • The lunar polar environment
  • Water at the lunar poles
  • Formative assessment
  • Student misconceptions

Unknown Moon Activities and Resources

Institute registration is free, and includes lunches. Participants will receive a certificate for professional development hours.

Numerous classroom resources will be provided.
