Hi Che

A few questions to help resolve what is going on

Would you be able to draw a sketch of the geographic layout of the nodes (with approximate distances between nodes) in your network, and send a scan/photo of the sketch please?

You have identified four nodes in your network (named node3, node4, node5 and node6) - is that correct?

Please identify the nodes on the sketch and indicate the gateway node.

Can you directly relate the phone issues to data usage on the mesh?

What sort of data usage is occuring on the mesh ie general web browsing, video streaming etc

If you stop all data usage and the remove the gateway connection, are the phone calls ok?

Regards
Terry

Hi Steve
Just an update, by fiddling with the settings and changing the gateway node to server 10MB (I presume this means 10MB is reserved for the mesh?) and the rest to client and disabling the interleading APs I am able to now get decent data thoughput of about 60kB/s. However the phone is a problem and oftern cuts out on MP to MP calls. Is there a way to give VOIP packets top priority on the mesh to avoid what appears to be data congestions?

Cheers
Che

Hi Che,

Can you post screenshots of the advanced configuration page for each device as well as the batman (mesh nodes) output from the status pages?  It is very strange that they device should work for an hour then stop working.  Is it possible the orientation of one of the devices has changed?

Thanks... Steve

Hi Steve,
Che here, I recieved the units you sent me, thank you. Unfortunately after I installed them I had several issue and one of the units I suspect is defective. Once I set up the network and configured the mesh on the correct IP range I tested thoughput and I was pretty happy when I was getting a consistent 60kB/s moving stuff internally and from the internet, call quality was also really good. Unfortunately that pleasant experience lasted only about an hour after which I struggled to even access the unit on the other side of the network ping backs sometimes fail call quality is horrible and transfer rate is sometimes only 1kB/s and sometimes fails.

I suspected the gateway node because when you try and phone the period of the ring interval is not consistent there is horrible static on the line like a dit dit dit sound that I didn't get with the other units. I tried to replace it with the spare unit and when I did the dit dits disappeared leading me to think that the unit was defective however the call quality and the thoughput has not improved much. I checked the link quality on all the units everything is below 90 dB and initially it worked great so I am very confused, all units have direct line of site with no interference between them though they are in a line. The network map looks like this:-

AP, phone, gateway node 192.168.100.3 --- 300m AP 192.168.100.4---- 20m AP 192.168.100.6 ----350m AP 192.168.100.5, phone.

I really need this working reliably as currently they are performing worse then the 1st generation mesh potato which I initially had.
Please help.
Cheers
Che

Hi Che,

I am just looking at the delivery address and I realise that we can't ship to a PO Box via courier, they need a physical address.

Thanks... Steve

Hi Steve
Thanks so much for you response! I was just going to replace the entire network as the throughput on the old devices is not high enough to for our purposes. I was wondering though if there is a firmware upgrade for the old MP1s that I could just use to link into that network solely for telephonic purposes.

Unfortunately there isn't. It is a limitation of that hardware generation.  However, while the devices can't be on the same wireless mesh, they can be on the same IP network.  You could maintain the MP1s for telephony on a separate wireless mesh network (say Channel 6 vs. Channel 1) and then connect them to the rest of the network via a gateway device like a switch or router.  I can explain more if you want to go this route.

Then another thing I wanted to ask is do you have stock of the MP AWD versions currently and where are they shipping from, you wouldn't happen to have any locally here in South Africa would you? Lastly is there perhaps an SA bank account that we can use for transfer purposes? It would make life alot easier...

Currently we only keep stock in Shenzhen, China and payments must either be made via PayPal or via bank transfer to our bank account, now in Canada.

Cheers... Steve

Thanks alot Steve

Hi Che,

Just saw your order.  Thanks!  Before we process it, I just want to check how you will be using these new devices with the original Mesh Potatoes.  You should be aware that the MP2 AWD is unfortunately not directly compatible with the MP1.  Were you planning to replace the old MP1s or network with them?
