Hi all,

Thanks to WorldPossible.org's RACHEL project and the tireless work of Terry Gillett, the RACHEL edition of the MP2 is now available. The Mesh Potato 2.0 RACHEL Edition or MP2 RACHEL is an MP2 BASIC fitted with a 32GB USB/SD memory card containing the content library assembled by the World Possible RACHEL Project. It has the same wireless hardware characteristics as the MP2 Basic.

The library includes the following content:
  • Wikipedia for Schools (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Malay languages)
  • MoToLi (English, French, Khmer)
  • Khan Academy
  • Khan Academy Health and Medicine
  • MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia
  • Hesperian Health Guides
  • Infonet-Biovision
  • Practical Action
  • Great Books of the World - Gutenberg Project
  • CK-12 Text Books
  • OLPC Educational Packages
  • UNESCO's IICBA Electronic Library
  • Math Expression
  • Powertyping
  • Music Theory
  • Scratch Guides
  • Understanding Algebra
The device is intended to be used as a WiFi Access Point in a classroom style environment allowing up to 30 students to access the material using a web browser on any suitable WiFi/LAN enabled device - PC, Laptop, Tablet, Smartphone.

A WAN Ethernet port is available to connect to an upstream network with Internet access which may then be shared. Other WAN options including Mesh and WiFi are also available.

The device requires no set up - it will operate out-of-the-box to provide classroom access to the library.

Library content may be added or removed as required. Any file type supported by a browser may be used eg HTML, PDF, JPG, MP3, MP4, OGG etc.

Technical documentation is available on the VillageTelco Wiki.

An alternate multi-language library containing just Wikipedia for Schools and Khan Academy modules in multiple languages (English, French, Spanish and Portuguese) is also available on request.

Thanks again to Terry and WorldPossible without which this would not be 'possible'  :)

Regards to all.... Steve

Hi Lemi

There is a page on the VT Wiki website about the the VT-RACHEL setup and how to download files for the USB.

But they are big downloads - 6GB for Wikipedia for Schools and 16GB for Khan Academy.

So you may prefer to get a USB memory pre loaded.

The MP02 requires an SD card in a special adapter for this.

Regards
Terry
