Hello all,

Looking at helping setup some long-shot Wi-Fi links at Arkaroola in the Outback where we did our original demo with Serval.

Distance between nodes is probably ~5km, from ridge-top to ridge-top in barren, dry country.

Looking for suggestions for Wi-Fi units that can comfortably do that distance.

Ubituiqi Bullets seem like they should work.  Anyone have experience with them over that kind of range?

Paul.

Hi Paul,

Even simpler than a Bullet is something like the all-in-one NanoBeam or NanoBridge  (http://www.ubnt.com/airmax#nanobeam).  Even a Nanostation M could easily handle that distance.  Depends on what sort of throughput you need though.

Cheers... Steve

AirGrid is also a good option if you can find them; they have no MIMO
but they are cheaper. We have 15Km links using the 27dbi model and the
throughput is 50Mbps.

Nico

yes :)

long links are actually much easier than you expect. Our last long shot
is 50Km with near 100Mbps throughput using Ubiquiti Rocket + RocketDish
34dbi).
