Current discussions of the best football pressure leave me wondering what ought to be done to take all the pressure off the animals, who didn't ask for their bodies to be 'in play' by athletic gamesters.
Apparently, regulation pressure on an AMERICAN football (with pointed ends - European footballs may have rounded ends) is (supposed to be) 12.5-13.5 psi.
"Before play, the ball is inflated to an air pressure of 12.5 to 13.5
pounds per square inch (86 to 93
kilopascals). The ball weighs 14 to 15
ounces (400 to 430 grams)."
Bill
Belichick noted this morning (just a few minutes ago) that
underinflated footballs with psi below 12.5
could be gripped better, but that
he had 'no explanation for what happened' in the recent otherwise very well-played football games.
The heavily-regulated American game needs a progressive regulatory improvement that replaces all animal-derived 'objects-in-play' with 'harmless objects (so that play is no longer war on animals).
