The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is inviting proposals for collaborative research projects aimed at improving the teaching of mathematics in preK-8 classrooms.

Through its 2014-2015 PreK-8 Preservice Teacher Action Research grants program, NCTM will support collaborative projects conducted by teams of researchers consisting of university, elementary/middle school teachers, and pre-service teachers at the undergraduate level. The action research should be designed, implemented, and completed with a focus on enhancing the teaching and/or learning of mathematics in grades preK-8.

NCTM defines "action research" as a form of investigation designed for use by teachers to attempt to solve problems and improve professional practices in their own classrooms.

Grants of up to $3,000 will be awarded for a project to be conducted between June 1, 2014, and August 31, 2015.

To be eligible, applicants must be current full individual members or e-members of NCTM or must teach at a school with a current NCTM preK-8 school membership. Participating pre-service teachers must be in an initial licensure/certification program at the undergraduate level and, at some point during the term of the grant, must be engaged in some form of practicum experience or student teaching.
