A former Highline Medical Center worker has been charged with
rape following allegations that he attacked a patient being
treated there for a separate attack.

King County prosecutors contend emergency room technician
Anthony R. Sims anally raped an injured woman who was being
treated at the Burien hospital in January 2012. Investigators
contend recently processed DNA evidence backs the woman’s
account.

In charging papers filed Tuesday, prosecutors contend Sims, 45,
attacked the woman while they were alone in an exam room.

The evening she was raped, the woman arrived at Highline Medical
Center for treatment after she was beaten up by an acquaintance,
King County Detective Patricia Maley told the court.

Sims met the woman in her room, where he stripped off her
clothes and wiped down her groin, Maley continued. The woman,
who is in her 40s, told police she found the latter off putting
because she had not been injured there.

The woman then felt a pain in her bottom, the detective
continued.

Moments later, Sims appeared in front of her with his penis
exposed, the woman told police. He is alleged to have requested
oral sex.

Sims then left the room to get a blanket for the woman, who
flagged down a passing staff member and reported the attack, the
detective continued. Police were then called to the hospital.

According to charging documents, Sims denied sexually assaulting
the woman and allowed investigators to swab his genitals. Those
swabs were sent to the State Patrol Crime Lab, which recently
determined the woman’s DNA was present in the samples.

Sims was put on administrative leave following the woman's
initial report, a Highline Medical Center spokeswoman said in a
statement. He was dismissed in Feb. 23, 2012, having worked at
the hospital since August 2010.

Sims has been charged with second-degree rape. He is currently
jailed on $150,000 bail.
