Hello, Ben,

I like Asana quite well.  It has excellent keybindings and it isn’t designed around Scrum.

Hey guys!

I was wondering if you all had any opinions on software development and team management tools! Any good ones out there? I've used Jira, Redmine, Trello, TFS, Pivotal and a host of other tools for sprints 'n such and was wondering what opinions for and against people had for particular tools and integrations.

Cheers!

I have never found a tool that worked well for me over a long period of time. So I have tended to prefer the minimal tool that satisfies what my team needs right now. That usually means github issues only, sometimes add Trello if non-technical people are participating in the issue tracking or you want to track projects above the scope of a single codebase. Basecamp also works pretty well for the non-technical / high-level issue tracking.

I should have mentioned that I have never worked for teams that do strict sprints or strict anything really. That is probably why those other tools haven't really worked for me.

Currently a fan of Leankit. It's kind of like Trello with more configuration options.

I've been using KanbanFlow.com. I will note that I'm not really using it as designed in all instances.

A customized redmine install has worked best for me over time, as it brings the best of the technical/issues systems as well as the business collaboration. Jira is fine at the technical side, but tough to use as business. Basecamp is great for the business/project side, but not really for bug tracking or roadmapping.

I think it comes down to the team you are working on, what types of people are involved, your dev style and what level of collaboration you need amongst them. If you're feeding the tool more than it's reciprocating in value, than it's probably not a great choice.
