Server outage this weekend affecting Models Conference and UmpleOnline

Please note that the CRuiSE server (and many others) at the University of
Ottawa will be down this weekend for building electrical system
maintenance. All services including Models conference, UmpleOnline, etc,
will be down from late Saturday to early Monday.

This will not affect submission of MODELS abstracts and papers, which is
not hosted here. Also, the deadline for abstracts is tomorrow, which will
be before this outage. I have put a note on the MODELS main page warning
people of this issue.

panne de courant du 3 mai - CBY & SITE Buildings power outage, May 3rd

Bonjour,



Tel qu?indiqué par l?avis du Service des immeubles de la semaine dernière,
les édifices Colonel By et SITE seront privés de courant ce dimanche 3 mai,
entre 8 h  et 18 h.



Prière d?éteindre tous vos équipements électroniques avant de partir pour
la fin de semaine, afin de les protéger de surtensions.



Nous planifions éteindre la majorité des serveurs de la salle des serveurs
de l?édifice SITE à partir de 16 h le samedi 2 mai. Les services
informatiques facultaires seront donc limités à compter de 16 h samedi, et
ce jusqu?au lundi 4 mai en matinée. Veuillez donc planifier votre horaire
en conséquence.




Les systèmes informatiques suivants ne seront pas affectés par cette panne
électrique:



·         Les serveurs centraux, tel le serveur Exchange de l?Université
(serveur de courriel uOttawa.ca, agenda, etc.) et le serveur AD central
utilisé par le personnel administratif

·         Service de réseau (DNS, DHCP)

·         Serveur courriel de SIGE (courriel.sige.uOttawa.ca)

·         Serveur by.genie.uottawa.ca.

·         Serveurs web de la Faculté et de SIGE (www.genie.uOttawa.ca,
www.sige.uOttawa.ca).

·         Serveurs de gestion des laboratoires (authentification et
storage)



Nous allons redémarrer les systèmes informatiques lundi matin; soyez avisés
que des bris d?équipement lors d?un arrêt (refroidissement) prolongé
peuvent se produire et ralentir le retour à la normale.

Hello,



As was indicated by the note sent by Physical Resources last week, there
will be a complete power shutdown of the Colonel By and SITE buildings this
Sunday May 3rd, from 8 am until 6 pm.



Please make sure to turn off all your electronic equipment before leaving
for the weekend, to protect them from power surges.



We will turn off the majority of servers in the SITE server room at 4pm
Saturday May 2nd. After that time, the Faculty?s computing services will be
limited until the morning of Monday. Please plan your schedule accordingly.



Note that the following systems will not be affected by the power outage:



·         Servers not located in the Colonel By or SITE buildings,
including the University?s Microsoft Exchange server (uOttawa.ca email
server, agenda, etc) and the central Active Directory used by
Administrative staff

·         EECS core network services (DNS, DHCP)

·         EECS email server (courriel.eecs.uOttawa.ca)

·         Server by.genie.uOttawa.ca

·         Faculty of Engineering and EECS web servers
(www.engineering.uOttawa.ca, www.eecs.uOttawa.ca)

·         Computing lab infrastructure servers (authentication and storage)



Services will be brought back to operational mode Monday morning. Please
note that hardware failure can be expected after a prolonged period of cool
down, which may affect recovery.
