AM Reception

Hi Friends

I am able to receive broadcast FM using RTL 2832 USB dongle using SDR# but i am unable to receive Broardcast AM.

I am using the rod antenna provided with Dongle. Am i missing anything? I am not aware of other settings apart from frequency?

Could anyone help?

    The RTL 2832 will not tune frequencies lower than ~52MHz, in order to receive below this limit you need to put an upconverter in front of the RTL 2832 in order to heterodyne these frequencies into the frequency range the RTL 2832 can tune.

Thanks for your input. Any suitable upconverter product available in market you want to suggest or any available circuit i could home brew.

Erm, ah, I didn't know there were any broadcast AM stations within the
tuning range of unmodified dongles. (And the modification is one that
only technically proficient critters ought to try. It involves soldering
in VERY compact environments.)

At least five HF up-converters are available.  Two are proprietary but three are open hardware design.

The open design ones, generously published by George Smart, by Paulino Sato, and by Robert Nicholls, could perhaps be converted to SMD for minimal component and assembly costs.

hi look at http://www.ct1ffu.com/site/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=178&Itemid=104 which can be used with RTL SDR also.. I tried it once but for different purpose.. You can order for soldered one / unsoldered one..

If you want to design by yourself, look at George's lab for HF downconverter.. (open source)
