I am trying to replace the British keyboard, but as you can see it added it rather than replaced it.  I like not have two but when I went to the settings, made the new one default, i still couldn't delete the original so how can I do so?

also, how do i edit the icn file easier?  i did this on a PC (eek) but cant get the white background for the israeli flag since i wanted it to use the flag.
right now it is transparent so it looks dreadful.

thanks.

OS X requires you to have at least one system-supplied keyboard layout
for your default language (or something along those lines). If you want
to delete the original British, you would need to enable a different
keyboard layout, such as US, Australian, Irish, Dvorak, Colemak, or
Canadian English.

There are lots of possibilities out there to create .icns files from
graphics files of various formats, e.g. Image2icon.

Ah I added Canadian English, readded the British by removing modified, reserved it, redeployed it, deleted canadian and now i am good to go.

Thanks.

Out of curiosity, where are the system keyboards stored?  Like is it modifiable without using ukulele if i have wanted?

I’m not sure what you have done there, but if you don’t have any system keyboard layouts active now, I expect your OS is going to have some problems, or maybe you won’t be able to type the password on login, or whatever...

Don’t even think of editing the system keyboard layouts! Ukelele produces layouts in XML, but the system keyboard layouts are different, in some binary code, I guess.

Definitely, the idea of editing/modifying the Apple-blessed keylayouts in the system is the worst possible. You must activate at least one such keylayout, and do whatever you wish with any other keylayout, provided it is not corrupt.
