Newbie: Vodafone 810

Hi (new to this group)

My wife is on a Vodafone contract that entitles her to a new phone upgrade
every 11(?) months (she retains the older phone)

She's just picked up a new Vodafone 810 and, on trying it, has decided she
wants to revert to her older phone, and has offered me the Vod 810

I have an old Nokia on Orange PAYG, whose tel. no. I want to retain, but the
Vod810 will not accept the Orange PAYG SIM

I'm completely new to this and I'm afraid my friend Google serves to confuse
and alarm, as much as inform

What's the best/cheapest/most reliable way to unlock the Vod 810 (I'm
picking up hints from searches that Vodafone might do it free?)

Or is the Vodafone PAYG tariff a better deal anyway, and I should consider
porting to them?

Hi Flynn,

You can get a Network Unlock Code (NUC) for your Vodafone 810 from
Vodafone Customer Care, which won't invalidate your 12 month warranty.

There would be a charge of £20 (inc VAT) for the NUC as the handset is
under 12months old. NUC codes are free when the phone is older then
12months old. We would just need to take your IMEI number.

To find out what this is, you can look under the battery pack on the
device or enter *#06# when the Vodafone SIM card is in the Vodafone
810. Once we've received your NUC we could then advise you of the
procedure to unlock your handset.

We do keep the majority of the NUC's on our system so we could advise
you what to do straight away if we have it available. If we have to
request it from the manufacturer it can take up to 72hours to get a
response.

If you wanted to port your number to Vodafone Pay As You Talk (PAYT)
you would just need to obtain a PAC (Port Authorisation Code) from
Orange and present this in a Vodafone Store, or call the PAYT Ports
Team on 08080 945945. The full process takes about 28 days.

You can view the PAYT price plans by visiting vodafone.co.uk and
selecting Online Shop and then Pay As You Talk price plans.

Some of the reasons for joining Vodafone on PAYT are the great offers
we have. You could add Vodafone Family to your account, for example,
and for just £5.00 (inc VAT) per month, you and 3 of your friends on
Vodafone could call each other for free.

This is just one of the offers on PAYT, and you'll be able to see for
yourself what else is available.
