I'm on the CART email list for stoppages and hardly a week goes by
without one email about the pump out at Wheaton Aston being out of
order... followed by another one saying its fixed and that there were
rags/nappies wrapped round the impeller in the pump.

If this only happened in high summer then you could blame it on ignorant
hirers, but the last time it happened was last week which suggests its a
long term boater, and probably one who keeps their boat pretty close to
Wheaton Aston... and by the regularity of the incidents its possible
that they're a live aboard and on the moorings in the area.... so they
should know better.

We all want CART to be spending our licence money on the right things -
keeping a specialist plumbing company in business with continual call
outs is not one of them, and I'm quite sure that the cost of the pump
out cards being used there are not paying for it either.

You could argue that providing pump out facilities is not a core
function for CART and you might be right but I'm quite sure that sooner
or later they will close the pump out at Wheaton Aston which will then
inconvenience all the other boaters in the area, and when that happens
we'll have people complaining that its not right that they've closed it.

Surely there are now enough marinas and hireboat bases that could provide
the
services without CRT having to provide independent facilities.

I presume the person who keeps breaking this pump knows that Norbury
wouldn't want them back when they broke their pump.

As I said in my original post maybe CaRT shouldn't be providing this
sort of service but the Shroppie is pretty barren when it comes to boat
yards... Moored at Tom's Moorings in Market Drayton our nearest boat
yard is Norbury..
