I suspect it was a well meaning citizen who was concerned that Mr Mason may be
driving on the public highway - and endangering cyclists.

That looks like the standard letter you get when you reapply for a
driving licence after a medical surrender of a previous licence.

They can be quite slow fulfilling these checks 3 months or so.

I don't know (or much care) who "dobbed in" Mason to the DVLA, but *if*
he is unfit* to drive for relevant medical reasons, then suspension of
his driving license is the correct thing for the relevant authority to do.

I'm sure that cyclists appreciate that point as keenly as any other road
users.

I trust that Mr Mason is not driving his car then.

It would be terrible if someone phoned Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 and
dobbed him in.

Nick

Actually he might be legally allowed to drive.

When a person voluntarily declares themselves medically unfit their
licence is often removed for a fixed period. For example 1 year. It is
then possible to reapply to have the licence returned three months
before the end of this period. Unfortunately the cogs of DVLA move
exceedingly slowly and in recognition of this they allow a driver to
resume driving after the year period has completed but before they have
officially returned the licence.

Which is kind of what is says in Mr Mason's letter. Whilst I don't wish
to disbelieve Mr Mason's victim-hood, or an unnamed posters
dastardliness in dobbing him in it, I am suspicious that the reason for
this letter may not be as Mr Mason presents it.

I trust that Mr Mason sent his fully completed application to the DVLA in order
