Most readers here probably know already but, just in case some don't,
there's a comprehensive summary here:-

https://setapp.com/how-to/type-special-keyboard-symbols-on-mac

It's always good to have a reminder anyway!

As an addition to that: any System Service you have that shows up in the
Application > Services menu can be given a custom hotkey the same way.

Personal attacks from those who troll show their own insecurity. They
cannot use reason to show the message to be wrong so they try to feel
somehow superior by attacking the messenger. They cling to their attacks
and ignore the message time and time again.

Please will you show me that?

I might make a video of it if needed, but here is one example:

In the Finder you can press Command+Up and move up a directory. You used to be
able to do this in Safari as well. No more... now you have to edit the URL
itself to go up a directory in a website. Sometimes this makes sense to do.
Sometimes not. I can see why Apple stopped backing it as an easy option...
even if I liked it.

So I created a System Service to do so (I can share the code if you want) and
set it to run just in Safari. For some time I had it set to be the "standard"
Command+Up, but later changed it to be Command+Control+Option+Up... most of my
custom ones are like that.

To set the hot key I did much what is described in the article: I went to
System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts ... but instead of going to App
Shortcuts I went to Services. From there you get a list of all Services (both
Apple provided and ones you have added) and you can set the hot key by
clicking the option to the right of the name of the service.

If that does not make sense I can show you a video of it later.

Thanks for showing me that. I've no idea WHY you'd want to be doing that
though! ;-)

Sadly, I do not understand "Command+Up"

Is this a joke, perhaps? I never HAVE found the 'ANY' key!

Now I cannot find the 'Up' key!

Obviously it's the upwards arrow cursor key, or if you've got an
extended keyboard there's the Page Up key too.

I do not use it often, but there have been times I am looking to see if any
one of a number of sites updates.

> Sadly, I do not understand "Command+Up"

Command+Up Arrow.

If you do that in a folder on the Finder it will take you up the path. You can
even do it from the desktop (the Desktop folder sits in your user folder). I
sometimes do this with folks who have tons of files on their desktop -- allows
me to view the files in an alphabetical list or by last opened or the like.

Sorry: should have said up arrow.

In this case it was the up arrow... and given how there are multiple "up"
buttons it would have been good of me to be more specific.

Have YOU ever found the 'ANY' key?

Troll-boy Brooks ‘forgets’ alot.

It’s all that alcohol he imbibes, it screws up the function of his one
remaining brain cell even more than that poor thing already is.

"Copious" is a measurement, not a type. "Copious" is bigger than a cup
but smaller than a bucket. ;-)

The ^ symbol is called a "Caret", bt is also known as "hat", "roof", or
"house" ... but not "up" nor "arrow", (at least not by 'normal'
people). It is also often used as a stand-in for the Control key / Ctrl
key in keyboard shortcuts (for example shown on the right-hand side of
some menu options).

Except...

...just like you all the time...

...they get basic facts wrong:

'Similarly, a degree symbol on Mac (º) is Option + Zero'

That is simply wrong.

The degree symbol is Option-Shift-8: "°"

The Option-0 combination looks very similar: "º", but it is actually the
"masculine ordinal indicator" (i.e. 1º for "first") in languages such as
Spanish, Portugese, Italian...

There is also a feminine ordinal indicator: "ª"...

...and the key combination is Option-9

Your Name

Yep. Option-zero is basically a superscript letter O, which can look a
bit fancy in some fonts, for example thicker on the sides and thinner
on the top and bottom. The shift-option-8 degrees symbol is simply a
plain circle in every font (or at least those it is defined in). The
difference can easily be seen by using a font size like 120pt in a
serif font such as Palatino.

Hint: do you really think that I pay the monthly bill using a credit card

Good luck with that, as it’s not forged. Damn, you’re an idiot.

If Supernews wanted to, they could track down which account created a post
with those headers. It wouldn’t even be difficult for them. There’s no
way that they’d spend _three weeks_ on it and then fail to see which
account did it. You’re just lying, again, because Supernews told you that
your pathetic attempt to shut me up wouldn’t fly.
and you still can’t, troll-boy.

If Supernews really thought that Wolffan had forged headers they would
take active measures to do something about it. That they haven't,
despite your making your initial complaint three weeks ago, speaks volumes.
Which header or headers do you think are forged, and why do you think so?

The header above makes me think that the poster is a client of Supernews
- he is not so (according to the message from Supernews received this
morning)

Wolffan is a *LIAR* who probably has access to an open nntp server

I was having a bit of fun - as acknowledged by Snit! 😉

David_B has not been imbibing at all since 21 March 2018

and how do I inject the Supernews headers, idiot?

Son, you just accused me of committing Federal felonies: wire fraud, forgery,
and possibly more, all without the slightest evidence. And all utterly
untrue, as I _am_ a Supernews customer, have been a Supernews customer for
years, and can prove it thanks to my credit card records. Supernews merely
told you to go pound sand and you’re lying about your rejection.

And, once again, the “I was only joking” defence. Amazing how oftyen yopu
dig that out, troll-boy.

I've forwarded this post of yours to Supernews in response to my
incoming mail this morning.
I'm sure when they check again they'll have no difficulty identifying you.

It seems that you have not been either honest or truthful. It also seems
that you have, for reasons of your own, decided to cross-post to
alt.computer.workshop, where this thread is completely off-topic. As
noted above, this speaks volumes about you, very little of it good.
What relevance does any of that have?
You have failed to show that he is not a Supernews client. I repeat: if
Wolffan was forging Supernews headers, why is it that Supernews has not
done something about it? It has been three weeks since you made your
complaint. A check of old posts indicates that Wolffan has had Supernews
headers in his posts for well over a year. Supernews would have plenty
of data to track him down if he was forging headers. If _I_ can find
those posts in a few minutes, why can't Supernews? And if Supernews can
find those posts, which they surely can, why can't they do something
about it? Which is more likely, Wolffan is forging headers with impunity
and has been doing this for over a year, or you are, to put it crudely,
lying your ass off?

You have failed to support this. Indeed, it appears that you are posting
deliberate falsehoods.

So, you acknowledge that you were, in fact, posting deliberate
falsehoods but think that saying you were joking gives you a pass? Are
you joking about Wolffan forging headers?

You posted this in August. It's now October. It appears to me that
Wolffan has no problems with Supernews.
