Blockchain is taking an insane amount of time to update, currently at 3 hours.
The windows version was completed in around half an hour over mobile.
Is this a bug or is this how long it normally takes?

Hi Marian,

I think the best way to improve this would be to package twister with an initial blockchain, so user's wouldn't need to catch up years of registrations from the network.

Unfortunately this is an area we are still lacking: volunteers to prepare pre-packaged twister bundles or to maintain separated downloadable blockchains.

(twisterd accepts the -loadblock= parameter for that purpose)

regards,

Miguel

Marian,

I've uploaded a zipped blockchain to initialize a fresh twister copy.

Would you give it a try? Here is the link

I'll load a new instance with the block file and see how that goes.

Thanks.

Why don't you just maintain a github/sourceforge repo with the blockchain and update it at least weekly/monthly and have the client pull from that during initialization, pulling date a week or month behind is nothing, it's the "since the dawn of time" thing that is the issue.

To produce a tool that really dumb people are going to use means it has to be super easy and fast to install, the windows version fits this except for the blockchain update "since the dawn of time", this also might bypass the issue I had with the blockchain not downloading when I enable the "generate block" function during initialization, though that may just need to be disabled until the chain is fully updated.

Yes, you are right! This would be the best alternative.

However I can't  be the only responsible for maintaining these things. There is this idea called "bus factor", and we must increase ours ;-)

Ok then how about the client picks a user at random to source the data from with possible opt in, or give me a module that tracks the chain and I'll drop it on my server, 10 gig a month is nothing. Build an ARM variant so people can drop it on low power C1/C2/RPI devices so I can put it in the closet and forget about it.

Thank you forwarded to me you're solving discussion, I just try to modify the HOSTS in the number of connections from one into two, but then was broken,,,, I will try to find other ways to break the blockade.

On the download site version is too old, it may also be less than the update problem?
If I do not use the WINDOWS LINUX but this is no problem, perhaps.too old

From last night, you can update the block, do not know is not because of the post-HOSTS modification and increased after a plurality of DNS, or may be your side of the effort, in short, can be, oh, by the way, on 2 WIN7 second blue screen may not be appropriate, and I successfully run the XP in a virtual machine, the link thank you created this world program, thank you very much:-):-):-)
