For the weekend, we will:
To get the most out of CodeAcross, one needs to prepare. The most successful hack events start with good ideas, talented experts, and defined expectations. To manage this, we need to engage on in three threads.

Launching Talk.Beta & Data.Beta.
For the past six years, we have built physical and digital spaces to demystify government, data, and this thing we now call "civic tech." Through those years, we have added a number of tools that sent us all off to different locations. This year, we reign them in. Introducing, NYC's civic tech community forum and community data catalog!
"Talk-dot-beta" is NYC's online home to civic technology, open data, and open government. This discussion portal is built on discourse, an open source discussion platform. It now hosts our general discussions, our developers corner, our open data workgroup, the City Record Online Workgroup, CityGram.nyc workgroup, and conversations around CodeAcross NYC.
Thank you Joel and Volkan for all of your hacking! Without them, we wouldn't have make this far. If you have a chance, create your account and thank them for being our sysadmins!
Additionally, we are prototyping discourse integration with CKAN!
In December 2014, Kristen Meriwether, a reporter for the Gotham Gazette, highlighted Citygram.NYC and its elegant use of city data. At the end of her article, Kristen challenged NYC to adopt OpenData.City, a CKAN distribution. Built upon the same software the US federal government uses for Data.Gov and the UK government uses for data.gov.UK, CKAN is standing on the shoulders of giants.
Today, we get to sit on their shoulders. Thanks to NYC's Ontodia, New Yorkers have a bleeding edge, community, open data solution!! Thanks to Ontodia, NYC is leading the way to to solve one of the most vexing open data problems - conversations around data. At the end of every dataset, you will find a link to talk.beta.nyc discussion topic. Additionally, Ontodia is working with NYC's own CartoDB to make open data more useful. As soon as that module is done, you will have just about all of the features currently found on the City's data portal.
If you have data to share, please uploaded it before CodeAcross NYC 2015.
FYI - Both sites are in alpha. If things go south and you find some downtime, start practicing for our talent show.
