Hi All,

The Knight Foundation is holding it's Green Line Challenge again! From the About page:

The Green Line brought with it the potential to better connect and energize the neighborhoods and businesses it serves. As part of St. Paul’s urban core it also offers the opportunity to benefit the city as a whole and contribute to its growth.

From June 10–July 10, 2015, we are inviting applicants to share their ideas for making St. Paul more vibrant. From a pool of $500,000, we are looking to support new ideas of all types and sizes.

We are looking for ideas from civic innovators of all kinds: individuals, nonprofits, businesses and governments. You can be a student, social worker, teacher, architect, entrepreneur, technologist, activist, artist, business owner, professional, urban planner, or community member—anyone is welcome to apply.

There are just two rules:

  • Proposed projects must take place in and benefit at least one of six St. Paul neighborhoods along the Green Line: Downtown St. Paul, Frogtown/Thomas-Dale, Hamline Midway, St. Anthony Park, Summit-University or Union Park.
  • Ideas must tap into the potential of the Green Line to create impact in one or more of these three key areas:
    • Exciting current residents and attracting newcomers to the Central Corridor
    • Expanding economic opportunity and breaking down divides
    • Strengthening the culture of civic engagement

The challenge aligns with Knight’s larger goals to invest in civic innovators who help cities attract and keep talented people, expand economic opportunity and create a culture of engagement. The foundation believes that designing places to achieve these goals is crucial to city success.

The Green Line Challenge builds on Knight’s leadership in co-founding the Central Corridor Funders Collaborative, an initiative that brings together diverse groups across sectors to increase opportunities and benefit communities along the new light rail line. The Challenge is sponsored by Knight Foundation and managed by The Saint Paul Foundation.

The initial application is easy to complete; you don’t have to be a professional grant writer. Just tell us what you want to do and how it will make the neighborhoods along the Green Line more vibrant.
