I'd like to start a single thread for job postings of possible interest to group members. Hope this is agreeable to the group--can delete if it's not.

I will be leaving Hearth Connection to begin as an eGovernment Business Analyst with Hennepin County beginning July 1.

As a result, my position is opening and given my imminent departure the organization is looking to backfill my position ASAP. We are looking for a strong LAMP stack developer.

Thanks

+++ I'm a big fan of having job/contract postings in the group. We all have to put roofs over our heads, and it's great if we can do that via work that fits our interests and passions. I'm going to stick this thread to the top unless there are objections.

Hey all-

My name is Peter Jannett, I'm a Research Analyst with the Minnesota Supreme Court and State Court Administrator's Office. I know Bill Bushey from the Humphrey, and he said this would be a good place to post some jobs.

The Research and Evaluation Unit is looking to fill 2 IT/Research positions. We've come to the point as an organization where there is simply too much data and too much demand for data-related applications and projects for us to handle with our current staff.

The first position is a Business Analyst. This position is focused on satisfying the business needs of the branch, explaining and documenting decisions, and working with the second position to deliver reporting and other data solutions. The second position is a Developer. The Developer will focus on programming reports, extracting data, maintaining reporting environments and databases, and assisting the Research and Evaluation unit with operation tasks.

These jobs are both located in a highly active research unit. The Research and Evaluation Unit is responsible for data and policy analysis for legislative projects, Judicial Branch policy decisions, criminal justice policy committees and conferences, and a wide array of other public policy initiatives. We're looking for people who have strong IT skills and training, but who are also interested in public policy and public service.

The IT Dept of the Judicial Branch will officially have control of these positions. ITD offers flexible scheduling for workers and telecommuting. The Research unit itself operates on a Results Only Work Environment (ROWE). There will be a lot of operational freedom in these jobs, and the Research unit has a strong culture of self-direction and personal responsibility for work results.

If anyone is interested, you can follow the links above or below. If you have any questions you can email me and I'll get you into contact with the appropriate HR or ITD folks.

Thanks!

Business Analyst
Developer

Hey All,

MinnPost is looking for a Web Developer. Among other things, you'd get to work with Alan.

From the posting:

This position may work on any part of the site (we’re avoiding the usual labels of "front-end" and "back-end"). You should be comfortable making a module for front-end frameworks like Backbone.js, designing a custom homepage view for members, integrating a Drupal module, or building and styling a new article interface. Most of all, you should be excited about the future of digital journalism and building functional, beautiful features that will help make that future better.

This position will work across departments — with a focus on editorial and membership — to create features, interfaces, and tools for both internal and external users. Note that this is not a news apps position; MinnPost has a separate team for that. In this position, you may collaborate with the news apps team, but if you’re gunning to build data visualizations, this role is not for you.

Can anyone point me to a public and current source of data on Metro Transit ridership and costs/rider?

I am trying to help inject more data into this discussion about light rail transit. I did try google, but did not find anything myself. I am hoping someone else here might know offhand if this is available and where.

We've gotdeveloper job opening up at my office at the University of Minnesota's Academic Support Resources group (similar to the Office of the Registrar): http://z.umn.edu/work_with_asr. The University is a great place to work, and this specific team is pretty cool and open to innovating and incorporating new tools/workflows into their processes--which you can't always say of teams working within large "bureaucratic" organizations) Job also comes with tuition discounts if you want to take classes on the side. Unlike a lot of tech work these days, the job is location-dependent (i.e. you need to be on campus most days), but comes with the perk of getting to engage in a campus community.

I worked at the U for many years (first at the Institute for Mathematics and its Application, IMA, and then for the College of Biological Sciences, CBS) and found it very rewarding. Good luck to the applicants!
