You may be going, "But wait, Joe. The theme to Mad Men does not have
words." And you'd be correct. But Allison Williams takes the words to
the old Nat King Cole song "Nature Boy" and matches them up quite
nicely. The fact that the video was shot in one take (albeit take 29)
is even better.

Consider this my attempt to make up for the previous post.

It's a mash-up, kids. And as a fan and supporter of the sonic-collage
genre, I must say, "Viva les mash-ups!" (And good on Allison. Dad
should be proud.)

We saw Matthew Weiner at the Jewish Community Center in San Francisco
this last Wednesday, and he revealed that the Mad Men theme is
actually the opening of some rap song. He heard it as in interstitial
piece on "Marketplace" and had to have his assistant phone KCRW to
find out what the piece was. He'd struggled to find the right music to
match the animation, and that was it.

He didn't reveal the name of the song, though. Anyone know?

The interview itself (conducted by the Chronicle's Tim Goodman) should
eventually turn up on the JCC's podcast page: https://shamash.jccsf.org/podcast_FP.aspx

According to the video of Ms. Williams and the band, it's "A Beautiful Mine" by RJD2.
