Can't send email from Apple Mail while connected to VPN

Hi. I am using Tunnelblick for Mac OS X with the free VPNbook configurations. Internet works great but I can't seem to send email from my Apple Mail client. Anyone else had this problem? Is there something I have to tweak in apple mail preferences to get it to work?
