Wanted to uninstall (and later re-install) because I had problems running Tunneblick but uninstall did not work it seems?

 Uninstalling 'Tunnelblick'

     with bundle ID 'net.tunnelblick.tunnelblick'

     at /Applications/Tunnelblick.app

Removed /Applications/Tunnelblick.app uchg and/or uappnd flags (if there were any)

Removed /Applications/Tunnelblick.app symlinks (if there were any)

Problem: an error was returned by 'rm -f -P -R "/Applications/Tunnelblick.app"'

Output from 'ls -R -@ -A -b -e -l -O /Applic tion /Tunn lblick. pp':

I'm on Macbook with Sierra. What should I do?

Thank you.

If you can manually remove /Applications/Tunnelblick.app, then you have completely uninstalled Tunnelblick, because deleting the application itself is the last thing that the uninstaller does.

However, uninstalling Tunnelblick and reinstalling it rarely fix problems..

I suspect that some underlying problem is causing both the problem you had running Tunnelblick (what was that problem?) and the problem the uninstaller had deleting the application. One of the reasons I suspect this is that the failed command (rm -f -P -R "/Applications/Tunnelblick.app") was executed as root, and should not have failed in a normally-functioning system.

Is there anything unusual about your setup? Anything unusual about /Applications? What was the original problem you had running Tunnelblick?

Originally I wanted to get a surfstick to run under El Capitan... I ended up doing a workaround with csrutil disable. That all didn't help so I bought a new stick, works now.

Unfortunately Tunnelblick didn't like that (or the VPN provider), so I thought it best to set it all up new.

Today I deleted all things Tunnelblick, enabled the csrutil again, but it still doesn't work:

The problem is that OpenVPN never received a response to the first packet that it send to the OpenVPN server.

There are many possible causes for that, including software or hardware firewalls between your computer and the OpenVPN server and the "Internet service provider" blocking OpenVPN traffic.

I think that's the cause for in your situation: Surfstick is blocking OpenVPN packets. Can you connect to the VPN if you are using any other provider? (For example, from an Internet cafe using Wi-Fi.)

Hi,

now I’m connecting with wifi which is a bit slow but otherwise it works. I’m rather sure there are no firewalls involved. Unfortunately I cannot use the surfstick at this location I’m at (no signal), so I don’t have the opportunity to try that out. I could try to carry the macbook to another location and see if I have any luck there. I’ll let you know once that has happened.

Thanks again
