Like most dual station boats, I have four levers at each steering station (2
throttle and 2 transmission levers). I would like to convert these to Morse MT-3 type controls in which one lever controls both throttle and transmission.

Seems to be straightforward enough but I wonder about the neutral detent feature for starting and warming the engine. I think I read somewhere that this neutral detent should be used only on the primary driving station. It gets complicated fast at this point.

Has anyone made a conversion like this?...Dick

Don't regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many.

A country may not be able to tax itself into prosperity, but it can tax itself into a balanced budget.

When I looked into this conversion, I learned that the single lever
control only works on a one station setup. For two stations there must
be a switchover device installed so only one station can work at a time.

A previous boat had single-lever controls (Kobelt, I think) that did not
require any switching - both upper and lower stations were active at all
times. I recall that only the lower control had the "disengage shift to
rev up in neutral" feature.

For what it is worth, I just did a sea-trail on a 49' RPH Defever that was equipped with Glendinning Electronic Engine Controls mated to a pair of SP135 Lehman Ford engines. As I recall, you could access any and all features from whichever station was active at the time. Operation was easy but a helmsman unfamiliar wit the the system will need to keep an operator's guide close at hand to decipher the blinking lights and as a reminder to which buttons to push to make things happen.

Check out this link:

Hi Dick I have that set up on my boat. It's all in the actual unit. You just
pull the lever sideways, which disengages the gear cable, for throttle only.
It works upstairs and down stairs the same way. I'm assuming we're talking
about the standard Morse controls.
