Air Mandalay (6T, Yangon) will resume scheduled commercial flights on May 1 the airline's Chief Executive Officer, Sai Kham Park Hpa, has revealed to ch-aviation. Operations from Yangon to Heho, Tachilek, Thandwe, Mandalay, Myitkyina and Nyaung-u will be on-board the carrier's recently inducted fleet of two ex-AeroMéxico Connect ERJ-145s - cn 145060 and 145089.

In the wake of its suspension of operations late last year, the Myanma carrier has retired its ATR72 fleet while revitalizing its management. As such, in anticipation of its re-entry into the scheduled market, Air Mandalay has been providing VIP and commercial charter services.

The privately-owned carrier's growth plans come against the backdrop of an increasingly competitive domestic Myanmar market.

Earlier this week, the CEO of state-backed carrier MAI - Myanmar Airways International (8M, Yangon), Tin Maung Htun, told the Airfinance Journal that his airline is looking to increase its fleet from the current three A319-100s and one A320-200 from the middle of next year onwards. In addition, MAI is also looking at moving away from its Yangon hub as it prepares to increase its international footprint.
