New community organization launched:                                          Asbury Park Transformative Justice Project

Greetings All,

I hope this email finds you well this holiday season. I am writing you to Introduce a New 501c3 Non-Profit: The Asbury Park Transformative Justice Project! The founders Jennifer Lewinski, Kris Hlatky, and Derek Minno-Bloom  hope you decide to join and support us in our mission and vision.

Mission

The Asbury Park Transformative Justice Project is a 501c3  were we put our belief that people are not the worst thing they ever did into action by providing intentional housing, empowering organizing trainings, job skills and mental health counseling to people of all walks of life returning from prison. We look to drastically reduce recidivism by bringing an end to the victimization and powerlessness inherent in today’s criminal justice system by using a transformative justice model.

Vision

Our vision is to transform the way people view crime and rehabilitation: from one of individual choice, to one of collective responsibility and accountability. Our guests will find their own liberation by seeking out mental health and healing from an unjust system while receiving the time they need to find housing, jobs, and to restore family and community relationships.

What is Transformative Justice?

Transformative Justice involves finding community-based responses to violations that do not center the criminal justice system and ensure accountability for the formally incarcerated.  It foregrounds systems of oppression, such as racism, sexism, homophobia, ageism, elitism, classism and ableism, as buttressing the criminal justice system. TJ addresses how these forces undermine a person’s life opportunities and ability to be in right relationship with their community. TJ puts systems of domination in the forefront of the discussions on criminal and social justice matters.

Our approach to Transformative Justice is three-pronged: it involves education, community reconciliation, and organizing for justice to educate individuals to go out and empower their community.

This is a root-cause-oriented, people-centric approach to the societal problems of crime and justice. We know that the Prison Industrial Complex is a business that has created a demand for prisoners, and we understand that in order to be humane we can not treat humans as commodities. They must be considered living beings who deserve justice, dignity, and healing.

This fundraiser's main function is to create a salaried position for Jennifer Lewinski, who is the co-founder of the Asbury Park Transformative Justice Project and founder Asbury Park Black Lives Matter. She will work to create a Website, obtain a house for the project, and build relationships with our community members coming out of prison. For the first year, co-founders Kris Hlatky and Derek Minno Bloom will volunteer their time to the Transformative Justice Project.

Please support this critical effort. Donate & Share!
