Hi Everyone,
After another year of meeting new people, sharing experiences, having debates, discussions, and doing some community action, it’s time to celebrate CITIZENS FOR A DIVERSE AND OPEN SOCIETY’S 2ND ANNIVERSARY. AND, THAT MEANS WE CELEBRATE YOU!
Gilda and I felt there must be a way to make our community more inclusive, and to be able to have a space where we can express our thoughts openly, about the touchy and ever-present issues of race relations, and the acts of racism. It appears to be in the news and in the air even more, now. Our Thanks to the generosity of Pastor Terrence Porter, who, after hearing of our good intentions, said: ”I’m on-board,” and that’s how we have a roof over our heads, very close to the Pilgrim Baptist Church. And, our relationship with Birgit Mondesir is extremely pleasant. She has been with us and for us, from the start.
We had no idea how it would turn out, but we felt positive that other people in the community would want to be involved. So, we kept inviting people; some came back, others didn’t, and still others became our loyal members. You Make It Happen!
There were those who urged us to do more than talk about the conditions, and to become involved in issues relating to our mission. We got involved in Voting Rights Registration, which is now over. Thanks to their effort! And, we are delving into the Amistad Law that requires all N.J. schools to teach African American History. This issue may become our lasting endeavor to see that another generation of students is not robbed of a rich, ugly, memorable, and an extremely important part of the American Experience.
We will have plenty of Food and a Birthday cake. So, please plan your schedule to be with us on this coming Thursday, November 17, 2016, at 7 PM, next door to the church. Parking is available behind the church. Turn into Leonard Street
We do believe, that Without You, we would not exist. So, now, Come Celebrate You, Us, and some New Comers, as we look forward to this new year. Let us continue in this humanitarian cause to be active in making our community a more inclusive and respectful place. Like ripples on a pond, our spirit travels beyond ourselves.
We hope to see many of you there.
Sincerely, Sid and Gilda.
A multifaith, inter-cultural service of music, word, and dance – voices of different faiths raised in joy and gratitude. This event had its origins in the aftermath of September 11, 2001. In anguish and sorrow, we came together from our different cultural and faith traditions to proclaim and celebrate our rich diversity. The healing effect of the evening led us to repeat the event with presentations each year from faith traditions that have included Baha’i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jain, Jewish, Muslim, Native American, Quaker, Sikh, Unitarian Universalist, and others.
Children are welcome, and refreshments will be served afterwards.
