“Liberty and Justice for Sale – Represent.Us and the Anti-Corruption Campaign

Sunday October 15th

8:45 bagels/coffee

9 - 10 am talk/q&a/discussion

1475 West Front Street, Lincroft
(Unitarian meetinghouse - uucmc.org)

David Goodman, PhD & Susan Colby, PhD are team co-leaders of Represent.Us/ Central New Jersey

Are we an oligarchy or a representative democracy? The answer – and the threat – may surprise you and matter more than the Russians! Represent.Us, a national volunteer organization, is leading a campaign across the nation to fix the problem – including in New Jersey.

There will be a letter-writing session after the dialog- pen/paper/addresses will be provided.

***A comment from David in advance: The power of hyper-concentrated wealth to bend politics and government to the will of donors is a root cause of corruption.  That's how we define it -- and we're in good company.  It was the subject of James Madison's Federalist Paper #10.  And, it describes the Gilded Age -- the first and second. Now, listen to the audio of Republican strategist, Bruce Mehlman, on our Second Gilded Age -- and see his full slide deck here:
History matters.

Now retired, David and Susan have made ending the influence of big money on our political system a priority.

Sunday morning dialogs are a secular Sunday morning gathering to hear about a topic from a knowledgeable speaker, followed by Q and A/discussion. See for upcoming dialogs: http://www.uucmc.org/grow/sunday-morning-dialog/

Racial Justice Project at Trinity - Film: "Columbus Day Legacy"
Guest speaker:  Chief Dwayne Perry, Ramapo Lenape Nation
 Wednesday, Oct. 18
6:30 pm
Trinity Church
503 Asbury Ave
Asbury Park, NJ

On October 18th at 630PM AT Trinity Church Asbury Park, we are honored to announce that Ramapough Lenape Nation elder, Chief Dwaine Perry, will be speaking! He will talk about why he does not celebrate Columbus day and the film Columbus Day Legacy. He will also inform us that the Ramapough Lenape Nation is engaged in a local NJ battle, centered at Split Rock Sweetwater Prayer Camp, to prevent an oil pipeline under their ancestral lands. They also face many present-day ramifications as outlined in this recent New York Times article, The Ramapoughs vs. the World

"Columbus Day Legacy" is a short film that explores the quintessential American issues of free speech and ethnic pride against the backdrop of the ongoing Columbus Day parade controversy in Denver, Colorado. Navajo filmmaker Bennie Klain takes viewers into this very personal yet very public conflict, asking tough questions about identity and history in America.

The event is free but funds are being raised for the Split Rock Sweetwater Prayer Camp. Register for the program or make a donation via Eventbrite.com, see

Presented by the Monmouth County Climate Coalition
"With contributions from several politicians, scientists, and environmental activists, including House Speaker John Kerry, Newt Gingrich, Al Gore, Nobel Prize winner Wangari Maathai, the film documents the human plight of climate change with a focus on the intersection of over population, lack of resources and climatic change. Filmmaker Michael Nash and producing partner Justin Hogan traveled to 48 countries in search of the human face of climate change.

The film attempts to illuminate the national security implications of countries running out of food and water due to vast droughts and climatic shifts." (from Wikipedia)
