Transgender homeless person hit with rock when he denies beer to couple in Redding
By Bill Lindelof
blin...@sacbee.comA transgender homeless person was hit in the head with a rock and called a derogatory name after a refusal to buy beer for others camping under a Redding bridge, police said.
Officers were called to a Redding hospital about 12:45 a.m. Friday where a victim with head injuries from being assaulted with a rock was being treated. There, “the investigation also revealed the victim’s transgender orientation played a part in the crime,” according to a police press release.
The victim, whose name was not released, refused to buy beer for a couple named Ron and Sherry and went to sleep under the bridge at Eastside Road and Breslauer Lane Thursday night. Ron then allegedly started the rock assault, police were told.
“He said he was struck at least three times and after being assaulted the male and female stole money he had in his possession,” the release stated. “During the assault, the male suspect called the victim a derogatory term based on his transgender orientation.”
The two wanted in the attack were still at large Friday.
