Hello AROW,
Home to the Pearl District's First Thursday and other cultural events, NW 13th Avenue offers an experience that is unique in Portland, with a strong identity and distinctive warehouse character that is deeply felt by local inhabitants and many visitors. Owing to the Pearl's history as a former industrial district, NW 13th with its raised loading docks functions as a shared street. But because pedestrians and cars must share the right of way, this arrangement can lead to conflicts between road users.
So how can we make NW 13th Avenue an even better place? As part of their graduate workshop project, the
Rethink Streets team (made up of six Portland State University urban planning students) have spent the past five months working closely with the Pearl District Neighborhood Association on a plan to bring a clear sense of identity and vision to NW 13th Avenue for the 21st century. Please join the PDNA Planning and Transportation Committee next month where Rethink Streets will have the opportunity to showcase the culmination of their work.
