Hey everyone,

ToorCamp is coming up soon and we're looking for musical wizards to
help us fill the night with some great music. DJs, live performances,
circuit bending, or remixing 90's songs to go with Hackers or Sneakers
in the background, reply to this email and let us know what you want
to do to help make ToorCamp 2014 AWESOME.

Thanks!
-David

Good afternoon,

I was forwarded this message by my good friend Pinguino. I would love to come play with you guys!!! Anyway, I've been DJing for 12 years, I've played the ioactive party at defcon twice, and rocked the last ever Ninja party. I also play for SDCC, and BruCon. I've got a whole lot hacker friends, and really dig the scene. Anyway, check out my soundcloud:

If you dig what you hear, we can talk numbers! (I do lots of remixes BTW)

Hope to hear from you!

Hi,

I perform live techno/acid house under the names carrier current and 12v. I also DJ, I like mixing detroit techno, acid house, deep house, memphis rap, & others. I'm coming up early with a group of others (isik and thomas aka frick and frack) to volunteer. I'd love the opportunity to perform!!

I'm not techno-pop hip, but I a violinist and I have a unique talent for playing by ear to very recent pop music such as from Coldplay, Pink and Katy Perry - very popular stuff - especially songs which already have violin in them. I think it would be loads of fun to play along to a set of songs.

For putting together a band of people who have no musical instrument talent at all, I also have a set of Paper Jamz Guitar and drum kit. If you haven't seen this, it allows you to play along to popular mp3 song tracks and it has pre-programmed chords so all you have to do is strum along. I find it pretty fun to hit the chords like a pro and sing along and pretend to be a rock star. You can play Hotel California like you've been playing guitar all your life - yeah its cheating, but so what!  Could be fun to take random people and do the equivalent of band Karaoke.

Franklin,

Do you have a mic clip for the violin? Might be fun to experiment. I am bringing a mini-studio setup with a guitar and midi setup, just to dink around, not looking to perform anything, but would fun to experiment with folks around the fire.

Hello David,

We're pretty much exactly what you described: avant-garde hard/soft-ware hackers, live coders, and musicians.  We have mobile power and A/V.  We will set up a music and performance art camp.   We can also do presentation or performance.

Here are a few samples: https://soundcloud.com/the-pipes-of-unix

I have a pickup mounted on my violin. It goes to a pre-amp box and has a 1/4 inch output jack similar to an electric guitar. If you can hook in an electric guitar, you should be able to hook in my violin.

-thanks

Hey David,

I just wanted to follow up to see if there was anything our group should know before we head out to Toor Camp.  We were considering setting up a destination camp, but might have other equipment considerations if you have pre-existing performance spaces or schedules.

Thanks!

Lesley,

We're setting up a chill stage which will be operating throughout the
day (at low volume) and performances in the prime dome most nights
that will be limited to a few hours every night. I think there's
plenty of time with the chill stage to schedule you in, otherwise if
you want to setup your own stage, let me know so we can work out
details for power and location placement...

Thanks,
-David
