Multiplot tikz handling

Tikzdevice works really fell for making tex output of singular ggplots.

However, often I want to combine several plots that belong together in one graphic. Writing multiple gridded ggplots with tikzdevice does not result in a write out. Is there a way to get this to work or should I segment the pictures and arrange them in LaTeX at this point in time?
