I am using TW with Dropbox. I had posted a few messages before about the weird behavior of opening TW with TWITS app in Dropbox. After working out a bit I could notice that my TW file with version 2.6.5 opens smoothly when opening using TWITS app but the upgraded file (to version 2.7 and above) doesnot.

I am not sure whether there are others who are facing this problem. Any suggestions can help.

Also I would like to know if there are any browser dependencies for opening the TW with TWITS app. Thanks!

Regards.
Shash.

Hi

Sorry for my belated response to your previous post.

I believe that the underlying issue is still that Dropbox itself tries to figure out the character encoding of HTML files by sniffing the first few hundred bytes of the content of the file. If it doesn't find any UTF-8 byte sequences then it serves the file as ASCII.

The workaround is to ensure that there are UTF-8 characters near the top of the HTML file, which can typically be accomplished by adding a meta tag like this to the top of the file in a text editor:

<meta name="utf8beacon" content="éçñøåá—" />

The trouble is that we can't currently add that beacon into the default distribution of TiddlyWiki because it happens to also break saving in Internet Explorer.

Can you try to add that meta tag to one of your 2.7 files and see how you get on?

Best wishes

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

Did not work. I am still getting a blank page. I even added a fresh copy of TW to my Dropbox folder to check and the app did not even render it.

Going further, Does TW5 also has the same issues with TWITS?

Regards
Shash

The problem is that the workaround discussed above breaks saving functionality in Internet Explorer because the implementation requires the entire file outside of the store area to be plain ASCII. Another possible workaround is to put the beacon meta tag in the MarkupPreHead tiddler, which avoids breaking IE, but again means that the fix can't be retrospectively applied to old TW files that have a MarkupPreHead tiddler already.

Anyhow, I'm delighted that people are using it, and will endeavour to figure out a better fix. For the moment I've added a link to this discussion to the TiddlyWiki in the Sky page.

Best wishes

I've just realised that I'm probably wrong about the workaround breaking saving in Internet Explorer.

Could somebody with access to IE try downloading a fresh copy of TiddlyWiki, adding the beacon as described above, and then testing whether saving still works?

Many thanks,

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

Saving with the beacon added in a fresh download of TW works with IE 8.

I just discovered this app - works great on my Android  tablet but not with my Ipod?? I see the app information page and the banner at the top "Authenticating with Dropbox" but that's how it stays.

Hi Kev

Is the app working for you now? There were some problems with the Dropbox authentication last week.

Many thanks,

Jeremy

I'm using IOS 5.0.1 because my ipod is Jailbroken so maybe that's the problem.

Hi Kev

I'm afraid that that might well be the problem, I've never had a chance to test TWITS under iOS 5. If you're jailbroken does that mean that you can run an alternative browser, like maybe Firefox?

Best wishes

Love what you did with this.
Working perfectly with a Jailbroken iPad 2 with iOS 6.1.
I was wondering if anyone found a way to put images that resides on dropbox? (current working directory or another sub-directory)
Thankx again for this great product

Love what you did with tiddlywiki. I use mGSD in my Windows 7, Mint Linux at home and another Windows 7 desktop in office without installing any plugin in any browser now, haha!

the dropbox.tiddlywiki.com runs smoothly. It's very useful. Thanks all you guy!

Hello Jeremy,

since many years it works like a charm. I use it very often at home and also at office.

Today I get this error message at the landing page:

It would be wonderful if you could fix it again.

Many thanks,

Ray

Same issue here. Would be awesome to fix this. Sill looking for a local wiki file with tiddly-like functionality, that lets me save to any folder without hassle. That would let me save to an integrated dropbox folder to solve cross device sync issues.
