Hello,

I  have been looking for frameworks for create a mobile app recently (if you want to recommend me one feel free to do it!) and I realized that many of them have many common points with tiddlywiky:
  • They provide widgets and a set of tools
  • They accept new tools by the use of plugins (both official and created by the community)
  • They determine rules to construct the UI others than just the usual HTML and CSS
  • They also allows you to use normal HTML and CSS
  • They can be customized, but provides a basic look and feel
  • They used to be responsive.
  • Has a great community behind.
I think that I'm not the only one that have used TW as a framework for some particular app or development. I created 3 web apps using TW that doesn't looks like tiddlywiki at all. There are other good examples like "TW for schoolars".

What I think TW should do in order to be a first order framework is :
  • A minified version of the core. Asking people to download a 1.5MB file for doing something that could fit in a couple of kb is a big dealbreaker
  • An easy way to select which parts of the core and of the default set of widgets you want to use. This will reduce the size of the application dramatically.
And that's all! TW could be used for many many things others than just a personal wiki.

Don't you think all this makes sense? Does someone here share the same vision?

I think you should ask Jeremy, referring to his question a month or two back where he was asking if people wanted to develop iPhone apps using TW. I mean, he has probably done some thinking along your lines already. Maybe easiest to bring it up in a hangout?

Of course I think that Jeremy have though about this, but I'm not sure in which way. That's why I'm creating an open question here. Sadly It's very hard to me to join to most of the hangouts, that is another good reason to make my question here.

Hi Danielo

This is an interesting topic. To me, TiddlyWiki is unquestionably a framework that occupies roughly the same place as traditional MVC frameworks like Angular, Backbone and Ember. However, it has evolved very differently because it was created under very different constraints (eg the requirement to be able to run without a server).

Mat is right that this is possibly a good topic for the next hangout. I've added your comments to my topic list and will try to cover it then.

Best wishes

Jeremy.

There hasn't been a hangout since my last post. There isn't actually one booked at the moment, but hopefully it will be in the next week or so,

Best wishes

Jeremy.
