FRONTSTRETCH TRIVIA:
Q: In 2003, Tony Stewart won the UAW-GM Quality 500 at then-Lowe's Motor Speedway. However, viewers watching the race didn't get to see a Victory Lane interview. Why?
Check back Tuesday for the answer, here in the Frontstretch Newsletter!
Monday's Answer:
Q: In the 1994 Mello Yello 500, Jeff Gordon ran the first real instance of true anger in his Cup Series career. What happened to put him out of the race?
A: Gordon and Ricky Rudd were racing for seventh late in the race when Gordon made an aggressive move to pull up in front of Rudd in turn 4. Needless to say, Rudd didn't like that much. Rudd darn near picked up Gordon's rear wheels through the quad-oval. This eventually spun out Gordon and put both drivers in the wall in turn 1. The contact and crash can be seen here.
Ray Evernham may have tried to give Rudd the benefit of the doubt in his interview with TBS, but it was clear that he wasn't exactly pleased with what happened. Neither was Morgan Shepherd, who had a lead wiped out in the final ten laps, effectively preventing him from becoming the oldest man to ever win a Winston Cup race.
