Jeb Burton to BK Racing in 2015?

Multiple outlets are reporting that Jeb Burton, recently of ThorSport Racing in the Camping World Truck Series, will be announced Monday as the new driver of BK Racing's No. 26 Toyota in the Sprint Cup Series. If true, he would be the first confirmed driver for Rookie of the Year at NASCAR's highest level as Trevor Bayne was recently declared ineligible (too many Cup races run).

According to NASCAR.com, BK Racing co-owner Anthony Marlowe confirmed to the site via text message that the team has signed the 22-year-old racer to a long-term contract. Additional sources tell Frontstretch the deal will be for three years. In addition, Jeb's father Ward, the 2002 Daytona 500 winner would also serve as a mentor/driver coach for the young gun.  Read more

NASCAR Issues Rule Bulletin to All National Series Teams

Last week, NASCAR sent a rule bulletin to all National Series teams that indicates a series of new regulations for the 2015 season.  As expected, NASCAR is taking the new testing ban seriously, attaching with it a P6 violation if any team was found circumventing the policy.  A number of other topics have been addressed as well.  Read more

Johnny Sauter to Drive for BK Racing in Daytona 500

On Saturday, BK Racing announced that Camping World Truck Series regular Johnny Sauter will drive the No. 83 Toyota in the Daytona 500.  Sauter will officially replace JJ Yeley, who moves over to the team's No. 23 entry for the full season, replacing Alex Bowman.  Sponsorship will be provided by Dustless Blasting.  Read more

NASCAR Makes Two Officiating Moves Ahead of 2015 Season

Last week, NASCAR made a couple of personnel moves that will directly affect the Camping World Truck Series.  Elton Sawyer, a former driver in what is now the XFINITY Series, has been named the new Series Director, replacing Chad Little.  Little will stay involved with NASCAR, transitioning to a new leadership role overseeing inspection and officiating.  Read more

FRONTSTRETCH TRIVIA:

Q: In the substantially cleaner second Twin 125 in 1989 (the aforementioned huge crash from last week's question was in the first Twin 125), Terry Labonte accomplished a brand new feat that had never been done before in winning the race.  What was it?

Check back Tuesday for the answer, here in the Frontstretch Newsletter!

Last Monday's Answer:

Q: Kyle Petty's debut for SabCo Racing in 1989 went about as horribly as it possibly could.  Caught up in a multi-car crash in his Twin 125, Petty failed to qualify for the race.  However, Petty was ultimately a factor in the main event.  How did he leave his mark on the 1989 Daytona 500?

A:  Petty (along with sponsor Peak Antifreeze) reached a deal that would allow him to take over the No. 23 Oldsmobile that was qualified by Eddie Bierschwale at the first caution.  Neil Bonnett ruptured an oil line and brought out the first yellow four laps into the race.  Petty jumped in the Oldsmobile and proceeded to take Bierschwale's family-owned Cutlass to a place it had never seen before:  The Front.  Petty led two laps in Bierschwale's No. 23 and finished a competitive tenth.  Since Bierschwale started the car in 41st (he took a provisional to make the field after getting caught up in the same crash in his Twin 125 that resulted in Petty missing the field in his Pontiac), he is credited with the tenth-place finish.  That performance will go down as Bierschwale's best career result in Cup, the only time he ever finished on the lead lap in 117 career starts.
